1st time trying this place and had an iced lavender latte. Wish they had coconut milk as a milk alternative. Instead ordered 1/2 oat & 1/2 soy milk. Will ask for a little more lavender next time. Nice decor and friendly staff.

Been going here for some time. They have recently taken it to the next level with the Gravlax Bagel. It is sensational.

I LOVED this place at its previous location 2 doors down, but now...the built in bench is on the west wall is uncomfortable- rigid and too high, my legs dangle like a five-year-old. Worse yet is the table across from the bathrooms, where the wafting smell of poo competes with my coffee. Ugh. I won’t go anymore unless there’s room to sit the front. There, it’s great!

Stopped in for lunch and had a quite delicious sandwich. The place is casual and simple; you bus your own dishes when finished. Clientele is mostly students who take up space for hours hunched over their computers and phones. The only negative is with the parking meters that have unreadable screens and swallow quarters for just a few minutes each (maybe this one was broken).

The coffee and food are always good and the staff is super friendly! Also, the gluten free donuts are delicious!

I ordered two simple drinks and they didn't make either right, and acted like they were hoarding caramel when I ask for another shot in my caramel latte. Returning them wasn't really an option because the employees had disappeared when I went back in and couldn't be found for about 10 minutes.

Top notch coffee. Breakfast sandwiches are some of the best I’ve ever had. Super friendly staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Backlot is a nice place to sit and sip. Its also provides great backdrops for selfies if you're socially Insta-cure.

If you prefer locally owned, and mix of light simple homey decor with that reclaimed wood, and rustic metal stools look, but not yet lived in, this is your place.

The bathrooms are very clean. That could be one of its best attributes.

When the place is empty, it can be loud because the ambient acoustics of the space are too lively. But when its busy, the bodies of customers appropriately eat up the noise refections. Its possible that acoustic treatments might interfere with the decor, or its a mechanism for making your stay shorter.

In either case, I choose Backlot when I'm in that area over the walk-in closet sized Starbucks down the street b/c I prefer to support the local businesses.

I like that I can ask for a ceramic cup to drink from. I loathe paper cups. I like that they have paper straws. I'd like it better if the pastries were more appropriately priced. On the other hand I suppose that has helped to keep my per visit costs down.

It's hard to find a really good independent coffee shop in the northern suburbs. Linz and Vail makes a good effort, but they ultimately fall short. While they serve excellent Intelligentsia coffee, I've had cappuccinos with the milk overfoamed. The gelato is quite like the old country, either. It's a nice place on the Central St. corridor, but like most establishments there, it's not something you would make a priority in visiting.

A nice addition to the collection of the stores on Central Street. The quality of the beans server here are top notch, but I don't think the baristas give it the care they deserve at times. The Gelato is good and a great quick dessert for a Friday/Saturday dinner with the family or at a friend's house.
