Longbranch Cafe & Bakery

This might bet the most awful restaurant experience I have ever had. We went there with my son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law. The food was fine (not great but fine). But there was the MOST atrocious child that I have ever encountered in a restaurant, screaming, shrieking and running around (so much that she nearly mowed over an elderly woman). Despite numerous looks and requests to both the parents and the staff, nothing was done. We were all SO glad to be out of there. BTW, I have had two children of my own -- who were mostly wonderfully behaved. But when there were not, I took them out and did not ruin the experience of every other diner.

I love this place ❤️ excellent food, great atmosphere and friendly service! Such a warm, welcoming and cozy little cafe. It's wonderful to have a place close like this, that serves vegan and vegetarian options. I highly recommend the Longbranch Cafe and Bakery!

One of the best vegetarian restaurants I've ever been to. You can't tell the biscuits and gravy are meatless. Excellent coffee and great staff. One of the best places in Carbondale, maybe in the state of Illinois

A classic! European style trattoria pizzas.excellent gluten free cheesecakes and vegan baked goods as well regular fare but all organic and real food. Real sugar real cream great coffee and service with character!

I've been going to Longbranch on and off for the last five years. The food is always excellent and the drinks are on moderate to good, depending in who's working. The service, however, is why there are long periods of 'off'. Very few of the staff are ever friendly, and most seem to think that they're doing a favor by simply taking your order and making your drink. A coffee shop should be a friendly place and Longbranch, for the most part, fails miserably.

The shop is so beautiful inside. It’s decorated with amazing art and calming colors. The staff are so polite and friendly. I tried 2 smoothies and they are absolutely delicious.

When I first started going here 3 years ago, it was expensive but some decent food options. Noticed over time that the same dish I was ordering weekly was becoming a joke portion size, kelps decreasing to barely anything and the price went up. They’ve lost their great staff that was so nice to see when coming in who were efficient, friendly & have been replaced by some really awful staff. One barista (if you can truly give her that title), is snotty & passive aggressive. The last time I went there I had a waitress I had not seen before who ended up having me get up & walk out with my elderly mother before we even ordered because she was verbally abusive. She acted annoyed that we were there, said she was very busy & would be back to take our order. When she finally came back I asked her about one of the coffee drinks on the menu and she proceeded to yell at me saying that she didn’t have time for this & would come back when we were ready (which we were minus a coffee drink question). I told her don’t worry about it, we’re going. She then proceeded to yell at me for wasting her time and saying she had other people to wait on too...I had to tell her to “just stop, just stop yelling” twice before taking my elderly mother in hand & leaving. Haven’t been back since & I used to stop here for coffee about 3 times a week at least. I won’t be returning after the abuse. That’s just unnecessary to deal with attitudes and an owner who is living in denial and will make excuses for the poor business practices that go on here, very defensive instead of professional & business minded.

Will makes THE best mocha, and the whipped cream is amazing. Their baked goods are also sold in several other spots near by, they're just that wonderful. The place is busy because everything is tasty and healthy!

BEST PLACE EVER!!! Food is amazing and especially their vanilla soda. Also amazing hospitality. The manager walked to each table and talked to us. Lovely experience and prices are good.

I like the restaurant, but I'm really disappointed with their vegan options. Their homemade burger patty and homemade sausage patties aren't vegan, and they don't even have a vegan cheese substitute. If they did, probably 90% of their menu could be made vegan instead of the few options they currently have. With all of the vegan substitutes out there, I'm not sure why they don't already do this.
