Lava Java Coffee Roasters of Maui

I ordered an iced chai latte, I still don’t understand what they thought they were doing. The guy gave me a cup of milk with a squirt of flavor syrup at the bottom. Tasted slightly sweet, but no chai flavors at all. Weirdest “chai” I’ve ever received. Do not order it. Not worth the $7

The most endearing of cafes with sensational coffee and some great merch thrown in fir good measure. Love it.

So good that I’m coming back to write a review 3 months after our visit. Since I keep sending friends who visiting the island here, I thought I should probably leave a review where strangers can see it too. The coffee itself is delicious! The dairy free milk selection was great too; try the macadamia nut milk. But an excellent coffee served by excellent people? It really can’t get better. My ringer daughter and I came here for coffee (for me only, sweet treats for her) almost daily while my older daughter was surfing. It was a perfect place to grab coffee, chat with the baristas, enjoy a treat out front, then walk over to the beach and finish my cup while watching my favorite surfer find her flow. We’ll be back next time we’re on Maui. Thank you for the perfect embodiment of the Aloha spirit!

Great coffee in a relaxed setting. A few seats outdoors let you look toward the ocean while enjoying your morning brew. Some 100% maui coffee as well as the usual columbia and other options.

The nicest people on the planet! And the coffee is amazing, too! It can get crowded as the space is cool and cozy, but small.

The service is fast and accurate. Coffee was really good. We came everyday while on our trip and never had a bad cup. Even when people were being pushy for their orders the baristas handled it all very well. Tip them! They are awesome!

Great location, friendly and helpful staff and really great coffee. We so appreciated that they had a good selection of milk options, as well as sugar syrup flavors. Went back twice because we were so impressed!

Update: We went back the next day and the same barista was working. He was much more accommodating. I know we all have bad days, so maybe we just went on one of those days. I told him about the bitter coffee and he suggested the Maui coffee (which is what I thought I had the day before) because that is what he drinks. My go-to drink is an Americano with cream so I don't want bitter beans (like the Seattle company). This day was better but still a little bitter. I LOVE Kona coffee so I had high expectations for Maui coffee but maybe that isn't fair to Maui coffee.

The local is okay if you like bitter coffee. The worker was not friendly and seemed not too keen on being there. However, the locals who frequent this place are very kind and willing to offer advice on places to go when asked.
