Black Dog Cafe

Love this place. Always great service, always fantastic drinks. The baristas are knowledgeable and timely, and can make a perfect (dry) cappuccino. I also highly recommend trying their blooming teas.

this is a beautiful little cafe with the best vibes! every employee i interacted with was super friendly. i ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk and some simple syrup and it was easily the best i’ve ever had! lots of places mess up matcha but this was awesome. i also had some banana bread that was very yummy. i will say that the wifi was a bit slow and spotty, but it was manageable. i’ll absolutely be back here to study and hang out with friends!

The location is very nice and the coffee is usually pretty great. One male barista did have a rude and off-putting attitude when I asked if they can make a colada. I politely asked if they can make a colada, which he rudely met with a condescending attitude telling me I was misinformed as to what a colada is (I didn’t care enough to debate him but knew he was completely wrong, I just wanted my drink). So I smiled and said “okay” and took my rather badly-made colada and left. Apart from this minor event, my experiences here have been generally enjoyable and pleasant.

Update to the owner: Yes, that was my understanding of it! I don’t mean to be callous, the drinks and their names can be very confusing and I don’t claim to know all of them either. I appreciate your customer service and for the record, yours has remained one of my favorite coffee spots in Tallahassee! I do think one of your baristas is having trouble upkeeping the friendly customer service of your business.

One of my favorite places in Tallahassee! I adore this place! Cozy with a friendly staff and some of the best pastries! Wonderful coffee and it's the only place I've ever been to where I can get lavender flavoring in my coffee which is incredible. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options on food if you eat little to no meat so that creates variety. I cannot think of a downside to this place!

Beautiful scenery, love the indoor/outdoor option, great service very personable, my husband and two kids go every weekend, the coffee is amazing, I can honestly say I've never had poor service OR a single complaint about the drinks or food. The ham and Swiss crescent s are delicious. Everything is always made fresh with wholesome ingredients. I highly recommend frequenting the Black Dog cafe, you won't regret it and it will become a staple in your routine and favorite places.

Best cafe I’ve been to in Tallahassee. Atmosphere is fantastic; Though, you must sit outside in COVID times. Good flavored coffee drinks AND fantastic kombucha on draft. If they have the orange flavor when you go there, get it. It ain’t cheap here but it’s worth.

I almost lived in this cafe for 3 months while studying and living in Tallahassee. The building is an old building that absorbs the sound really well. If you are the type who enjoys background white noise to focus, this is the right decibel. A lot of cafes these days have shiny plastic-y materials that reflect sounds to deafening levels with pretentious designs. This place is peaceful. Great place to sit and read on the porch in the fall as well.
Coffee beverages are made with quality and care. The staff were really nice and friendly. Jen was my favorite barista. She was always super super kind and professional. She made amazing Lates. They have good vegan pastries as well.
The owner is lucky to have such kind and caring people working all hours of the day as if they owned the business themselves. She could be nicer to her staff.
I recommend this place to everyone over any other cafe in town.

The barista was kind, helpful and effective to. This coffee shop is a cozy place to bring your family and dog to get a cup of Joe and enjoy nature. I also appreciate that this place is kind to veterans:). I am grateful for the yummy dolce de leche coffee the barista made me. My sister also loved the green tea matcha she made with a little white chocolate. We will definitely be back to this place.

Perfect spot for a first date. Smells wonderful inside. Fresh coffee and pastries. Right by the water. Fantastic hidden gem.

What what! I found my new coffee shop in town! It's here at Black Dog!

I was coming back from work one day and really wanted some coffee. I like almond milk with my coffee but finding places that actually serve it can be sort of difficult. With the help of the trusty Yelp app and the recommendations of my friends who have lived in Tallahassee, I went to Black Dog.

Black Dog is located on Lake Ella which provides a really peaceful atmosphere to just hang out and have a nice cup of joe. When I got to the shop, I was immediately struck by how quaint and charming it was inside. It sort of looks like a log cabin -- super warm and cozy.

I ordered an almond milk latte with Irish creme syrup and let me tell you, this latte was on point. It's easily one of the best lattes I've ever had. That, combined with the atmosphere and the super friendly service are making me really psyched to come to Tallahassee and drink coffee til my head explodes.

Definitely stop in if you want some good brew!
