Writer’s Block is such a lovely little gem, right in the heart of Spenard. Always great tunes, delicious food and wonderful libations; including the “hard,” adult variety! The Pelmeni is a must have for those who eat meat and if not, the Pierogi is just as swell! They have a new deck outside for you pleasure and comfort in these crazy times; or they’re down to about half capacity inside right now. All are welcome in this place, as long as they treat other patrons with respect. Open Wed-Fri from 10a-8p and till 5pm on Saturday/Sunday. Masks are required for everyone’s safety but provided if you’ve recently lost yours! Plenty of great books. Right now carrying a great selection of aplicable books such as, “White Fragility.”

Breakfast beans and rice add sausage is amazing. Same with Pel Meni
Small parking lot. Please consider car pooling if everyone is sitting at the same table. Theres times I've been in, and the lot is full, but everyone is at one or 2 tables.

Love it! Enjoying a small Ceasar salad with a Cosmopolitan today while reading a book before I go to work.
This is my Happy Place to stop on my way to work.
Great book selection (especially local authors and books for children) and they take special orders. The menu may be limited but I have enjoyed plemeni, matzoh ball soup, and salads.
Many special events at this venue may be found on their Facebook page.

what a wonderful and inclusive space! as someone visiting from portland, OR, this bookstore felt like home. very comfy and laid back, with impressive breakfast and lunch options in addition to your expected coffee shop fare, plus alcohol options, which is always nice. i'd love to catch some poetry reading or live music here! in my weeklong stay in anchorage i visited here twice and enjoyed being there both times. my partner ordered their pelmeni and i had some matzah ball soup for lunch. his pelmeni was incredibly good, while my matzah ball soup was a little on the salty side, but still tasty!

What a cozy little haven! All the food looked amazing. I had the Hungarian mushroom soup and it was delicious. The staff are super friendly and you're surrounded by books with lovely music playing in the background, what more could you want? I'll definitely be back.

I absolutely love this place! My fiancée and I discovered it by happen-stance while visiting Anchorage for the first time. The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing time with a book and a cup of tea or coffee. We also agreed that if you are in the dating market, it would make for a great first (or not first) date.
