This is a really nice and cozy place to hangout with friends or families. Very spacious, got comfortable coach, nice decoration. However, I have to say, the taste of the drink was disappointing. We ordered one cappuccino and one holiday special chai roobio, both taste quite watery :(. there are parents bringing their kids there so could be a bit noise when kids were playing together.

Cute place with friendly vibe. Looking for the progressive scene in Anchorage? This is a good start. Nice selection of books, magazines & small gifts. Community fliers are posted of local events and comfortable chairs await your meet up with friends. We tried the Pelmeni and were not disappointed.

Great place for lgbtqia+ to gather in a non bar setting. Or for anyone to just hangout, great drinks, amazing food. The owner is a great lady. Definitely recommend writers block. Oh oh plus they have a great selection of books that are rotated, stuff for everyone 1 to 99 years.

It was my first time at this cute little bookstore and I just adore it. Everyone is so friendly, there is a lot of variety of books, and you can even get one you want ordered. The food and drinks are amazing too. I love that they hold events here as well. I will be back for more.

This is the quintessential bookstore experience with a curated selection of books and a lovely cafe with a wide range of offerings including beer, cider and cocktails. I found new books to read while enjoying a leisurely lunch. There is counter and table seating plus chairs scattered around the cottage.

I really loved the vibes in this place. They have coffee, beer, wine & food! It's much more relaxed than the bars or restaurants that I frequent & I'm going to be spending more time here when I just want to hangout or need to pass time before a flight.

This little gem offers delicious food and coffee in addition to providing a respectable collection of topical literature and games for sale. The staff are very friendly and genuine, and the atmosphere is quite soothing — I'd choose to work here for several hours over any other cafés I've found in town.

One of the coziest spots in town. The staff is always extremely inviting, and they have cool events and shows when we aren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Today I tried the Cucumber Fizz drink and it's a delicious cocktail for sure.

The Writer’s Block has added something wonderful to this city - for a place that likes to read and drink coffee as much as Anchorage does, it was a crime that up until last year we had no independent bookstore/cafe in town. Don’t get me wrong, I love Title Wave (and its proximity to Middle Way & Kaladi!). But as delightful as a secondhand bookseller near quality restaurants is, it’s not quite the same as a quirky independent establishment like this one, that is equal parts bookstore, bistro, and event space.

The Block is awesome. The owners are often here, and almost always present at the plentiful (and awesome) events they host. You’ll encounter friendly regulars too, as well as folks on dates and others having meetings and others sitting solo with a notebook or a computer. The atmosphere could not be more cozy, inviting, and inclusive.

And the food and drinks are outstanding. Quality local brews of both the coffee and the beer variety are always on offer, as are teas and creative cocktails - the Block mojito is simply perfect on a sunny summer night. To warm you up for those cooler times, the menu is full of hearty comfort food from around the world, especially Jewish and Latin American classics (drawing on some of the owners’ heritage). Basically, the Block as something for every season and every eater, and it’s all high-quality so you can’t go wrong!!

The humans who established Writers Block are owed a debt of gratitude by Anchoragites. Thank you, Block, for shining a light on great books and using your space to promote the arts and marginalized voices, and thanks for the delicious libations and noshes as well!
