The day we went the place was really busy. Had to wait to get a table. Food took a while, but it was fine as we sat and talked. Keep in mind that it is a small place with an even smaller kitchen. So you probably don't want to go there with a large group of people on a weekend. Plan on a more relaxed experience.
Overall the food was different than the normal cafe fare, different in a good way. It had a lot of flavor and just wasn't the usual stuff. Definitely a place to go back to.

Was looking for a locally owned coffee shop. Picked the national based on the awesomeness of their website. Was not disappointed. Prices were fair. Food was delicious and organic. Patio was a cute little shady garden. Coffee was scrumptious. I've cubes looked like eyeballs... Service/owners were very kind. Next trip to Milwaukee will definitely warrant another visit to the national.

An amazing breakfast at a very welcoming restaurant. The National is an excellent local restaurant.

I've come here several times for breakfast/brunch in my way to work. It's a super cute place on a nice, bright corner. It's a little small, so it can be a bit loud if it's busy but nothing too bad. They also have takeaway and you can call ahead, which is great. Delicious, made-from-scratch options and plenty of variety. The Mexican mocha is fantastic! It can be a little slow if it's prime hours, but I've never had to wait more than 20min. Parking is the biggest drawback- it's all street and sometimes there just aren't free spaces for a few blocks.

The best breakfast sandwiches! Fast, kind service!

Im not saying it's not worth a try, really good flavors and a fun menu selection. You need time as orders took a while which made it kinda awkward for groups. There was a long hair in my dish and irrelevant but; stickers are advertisement for this type of establishment, they shouldn't charge people for them. Just seemed off.

Yum! The food was delicious and came out quickly. The employees were all super kind and helpful. The atmosphere of the place is awesome as well, definitely felt cozy and like I could hang out there all day!

Delicious food, yummy baked goods, tasty coffee. The National has a great atmosphere and a charming $100 back-story to go with it. A favorite lunchtime stop of myself and coworkers. The owner and staff are wonderful and friendly. Our organization has received donations from the National for community volunteer events. Service can be a little slow during rush hour but only because the food is so good and the cafe so popular. My favorite lunch item is the black bean wrap!

One of my favorite little gems of Milwaukee. From the outside it just looks like your average little Milwaukee shop. As soon as you step in the atmosphere is cozy and almost straight out of Instagram. But the best part is the FOOD. You can tell they put a lot of work into making the food perfect, especially the breakfast. 😱❤️

This is about as good as it gets for traditional but high-quality, veggie-friendly local eats. It's not cheap but not that expensive, not fast but faster than most 'sit-downs,' it's just great, made-right-there eats. Like if a Panera was a local joint on National. part of town. Always friendly staff, solid coffee options.
