Delicious coffee in a fun environment

Great coffee based beverages and great food. Try the crepes! You may have a long wait after ordering, but that's all the more reason to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

Very fun coffee shop/bar. Almost always has live music and great beer selection. Crepes are delicious, and open mic is always a good show

Very cool place with a very relaxing vibe! Excellent food and drinks! They are well staffed and very friendly. I hear they have live music events too... I will definitely be back!

Atmosphere and lighting conducive to reading, studying, socializing; rotating seasonal cocktails alongside classics that are made true; rotating but ever diverse tap selection; coffee and crepes that are superb.

Quaint and comfortable. Great light meal. I wouldn't recommend the Hard Cider, it was like fermented vinegar. The crepes were delicious and the salad was simple perfection.

The Root Note has been my favorite nook in all of La Crosse for years... Quiet enough to study and lively enough to spend every evening enjoying music and trivia! Super friendly staff and amazing food (make sure to try the cremlin and their homemade cookies)... Definitely the sort of business every community should have 😌

Crepes are great! My girlfriend and I go here weekends mornings and play cards while waiting for crepes and tea. Also great study atmosphere for students.

I want to love this place - there's so much potential. BUT every time we go in there's one thing that's screwed up. Last time the espresso machine was broken AND they were out of brewed coffee. Somehow they made us a couple of decent Americanos (maybe it was just the steam wand that was broken?). This time it was just a long wait. We ordered two coffee drinks (cortado and a cappuccino) and a couple of glasses of sparkling water. Waited 20 minutes for the coffees to come out, but still no water. When I went to the counter to ask about the waters a frazzled barista said 'we're working on that'. Not sure what that meant.
Honestly, the Root Note has great coffee. My cortado was perfect and my wife's cappuccino was as well. Its my impression that the staff is doing the best that they can given the circstances, but there's just a handful.of things in the place that need some attention (espresso machine maintenance, etc.). We'll still go there for coffee, but its hard to recommend to anyone else with higher expectations.
