Really welcoming and open study/meeting area. Espresso is excellent and the staff all seem to be having fun.
The only thing is, I felt kind of unsafe walking from my car down the street to the coffee shop. There is no designated parking area and I saw two suspicious guys who were stumbling around and yelling. If you are a woman who is alone, I would try to park as close as possible or bring a friend.

This place is a gem. The coffee is excellent, and the service is the absolute best. This is edited because I wrote a review after recently moving to Tacoma and after some time passed, I am now persuaded this is the best place in town (so what if you have to pay a buck for a refill?). Trust me, it's worth it. Great people, lots of natural lighting, and so many tables to sit at.

Visited here for the first time after reading positive reviews. We asked the guy who took our order (and made our drinks) for recommendations - but it seemed as if he hadn't tried anything on the menu and had no recommendations.
Finally decided to play it safe and tried a latte - surely they couldn't mess a latte up - but it tasted like a cup of milk rather than coffee! In fact I didn't even taste a coffee flavor....that's how watered down (well in this case milked down) it was. I thought something was wrong when he kept pouring milk into the cup...I was highly disappointed. I paid $5.00 for a cup of milk?

Latte: 5/5 The latte was robust, didn’t taste stale and had a cute heart design :)
Atmosphere: 4/5 As a tourist I just wish they had more seats, I wasn’t able to enjoy it in a ceramic mug. The best way to enjoy this coffee!
Staff: 4/5 Not much interaction with them, they were nice enough.
Price: 4/5 A bit steep but worth the occasional splurge :)

Great coffee and a great place to meet with friends.

My sister and I spent 4 days in Kent WA and ate 3 meals here. Even when we ate outside our waitress was attentive and kept the coffee flowing. One of out tour guides told us that John Bender used to "hang out" here to talk with the locals while he was writing MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL. Just make sure you're hungry when you go because the portions are more than generous.

Best coffee shop in Tacoma, from I can tell. Love the coffee. Love the atmosphere, and I won't lie, the sandwich shop being close and the attached bar (with alcohol) are a huge plus. Barristas are great, normal people and not snobby or busy doing something more important than pouring coffee (I'm looking at you Metronome), and the clientele is a solid mix of young old and business artsy type. And it feels normal, unlike some Starbucks that can feel like an IKEA.

By and far my favorite coffee shop in Tacoma. They offer a small range of single origins and blends that you can watch being roasted during the day. The location doesn't have great parking but you will have good access to several places in walking distance on 6th Ave.
