Great brunch service. Brisket eggs benedict was fantastic. Items are sold until ingredients run out or can't be substituted, and my first choice of pulled pork BLT was sold out by 12, but pulled pork breakfast taco was still great. Brazillian house blend coffee is very good, bloody Mary was less boozy than I personally would have hoped.

I should have added this description earlier, but I love The Smoky Mug! It's great to have a cafe in my neighborhood, and especially one with such great outdoor seating. The various toasts are delicious, as is the chai. I'd love to see some egg sandwiches (or breakfast tacos? I want somewhere in Richmond to have breakfast tacos!!) in the breakfast menu, but love what is already available. And, I can't wait to try the BBQ when the other half of Smoky Mug opens!

UPDATE: It took me a bit to finally try the brunch/happy hr BBQ, and my only regret is taking so long to do so! I love the outdoor space, enjoyed a great cocktail for happy hr, along with amazing brisket, and the breakfast tacos are amazing. So glad The Smoky Mug is in my neighborhood!

Best dirty chai latte I've had. Their avo toast and hummus & Veg bagel are also my go-to for food. My friend adores their smokey chicken salad too. A bit pricey, but worth it for a treat and supporting the neighborhood.

I don't normally leave reviews, but I have to brag about the AWESOME service I had at the Smoky Mug yesterday! The two women who took my order(s) were so friendly, and helpful when a friend couldn't make a decision on a treat. They made us laugh, the air conditioning felt amazing, and the hospitality was flowing. I so appreciated they staff's smiles, banter, and charm. I will definitely be back very, very soon! Thanks ladies, you rock!

Awesome new spot with amazing sandwiches and coffee. I have gotten the iced dirty chai twice now and it’s made to perfection. The Turkey and Brie sandwich is fantastic. They use a local baker, local roast coffee, and you can tell they care about every product they produce. Keep up the amazing work. Excited for the BBQ next year!

First Class BBQ Brisket.
My wife and I lived in Texas for 5 years, and had the good fortune to try brisket from Franklin BBQ in Austin and several other outstanding places in Dallas and Austin. Since moving back to the east coast, we've found the BBQ scene to generally be pretty mediocre. ZZQ in Scott's Addition was the closest we'd been able to find to the level of quality we got used to in Texas.
We just got back from our first visit to The Smoky Mug, and we'll be going back there from now on instead of going to ZZQ. The brisket was absolutely fantastic. So tender you don't even need a knife while you're eating. We ordered extra to take home for brisket breakfast tacos. The mac and cheese was really good as well.
Long story short, it's really really good, and we'll be going back. Often.

As someone who needs decaf, they make quality iced lattes and the amount of flavors is like.... Whoa. I had their smoked Salmon on a croissant and that was a blessing to my taste buds. Lol. Check them out ⭐💞

Great coffee and one of the best breakfast burritos I've had on the east coast!

Been meaning to try this place forever and it was worth the wait! It was super clean inside. The guy who helped me was so friendly and made me one of the best dirty chai lattes I’ve ever had! Finally a place that does a flavorful spicy and sweet chai!
