We traveled from Florida to Richmond through flight. Once we landed on Richmond we wanted to have breakfast and we searched near us. From the reviews and being a cafe we decided to have breakfast from The Smoky Mug.
Accessibility and Cafe
The Smoky Mug is 20 minutes from the airport and they have a parking lot near the cafe where one can park and can directly enter the cafe.
The cafe is beautifully decorated with seating inside as well as outside.
Along with the cafe they also have a small cafe which provides beer and quick foods.
Food and Service
Once we entered the cafe we directly went to the register to order the food. From the menu we first started with the drinks which included Dirty Chai Latte & Chai Latte Oat Pumpkin Spice.
For the breakfast we ordered Avocado Toast, Hummus & Veggie, Overnight Soaked Oats which had Peanut Butter & Jelly.
The service was good and soon we got our coffees as well as breakfast.
First we got our coffees which were delicious and grounded perfectly. Delicious coffees to have.
Then soon we got our food.
Avocado toast was okay. It was not hot although we returned so that it could be remade hot but still it was same.
Hummus & Veggie was delicious and it was made with fresh veggies and perfect breakfast.
The overnight soaked oats with PB& J was also delicious and we took them with us. It was best after the trail.
Amazing cafe with good breakfast.

I chose The Smoky Mug, after reading several reviews.
My expectation was better. Friendly crew, great food, relaxing atmosphere and most important, clean bathroom.
I'm totally satisfied. On my next visit to Richmond, I will comeback to Smoky Mug.

Ultra-creamy mac and cheese...fall-apart brisket...fresh coleslaw that's bursting with flavor...and I can grab a perfectly balanced iced vanilla latte on the way out? Never realized I needed a place in my life that does great BBQ and killer coffee.

The smoky mug is phenomenal. I came around for brunch and had some great chorizo potatoes and chia. I liked that there is a lot of outdoor seating, these days sitting outside is almost a must if the weather is bearable. The menu is great, alot of unique combinations. I can't wait to go back and try something different.

The Smoky Mug is amazing! It's a coffee shop and Tex Mex BBQ joint rolled into one. We had the sliced brisket, a brisket sandwich, smoked sausage, pulled pork, mac and cheese and it came with pickled onions and pickles. We also had some drinks from the cafe area, a cold brew coffee and a dirty chai. Everything was absolutely delicious and that bbq was some of the best I've ever had, and that includes what I've had from multiple parts of Texas.

Wow. We travel through Richmond about one or twice a year and usually get some bbq. We've had the big names, all very good. But today, this place supplants them for me.
Cool little place behind a Cafe.
Brisket was very good. Great flavor and bark, moist enough.
Sausage links are great, lots of herbs and some cheese, very tasty, not spicy.
Pork belly burnt ends were pretty good. Good flavor, slightly sweet. Only knock is the sizes were too varied. The bigger ones were cooked right but too big, the small ones were the right size but overcooked and a bit hard.
The ribs shined on this day. No need for more sauce. Great flavor, very complex with lots of seasonings and a tiny bit of the sweet vinegar mustard sauce was already on them. Very juicy and tender without falling off the bone.
Sides were top notch. Hatch Chile mac n cheese was very good, real cheese and slightly spicy. Greens had lots of smoked meat in them, nice smokey, vinegary, sweet flavor.
I highly recommend to anyone. Great stuff.

I went looking for vegan fare. They had overnight oats, a veggie & hummus sammie, and I got the avocado toast on artisan sourdough with pickled onions. Bravo. The bread is fresh and delicious. The avocado is creamy, smooth, and perfectly seasoned. The pickled onions can be eaten alone! Yum! Wonderful surprise to get this at a BBQ joint! Nom nom nom.

Staff is dumb nice. $60 SMALL platter fed three of us with enough left over to feed us for two more meals … subbing one of two sausages for another protein was clutch - thank you to the awesome Asian guy who recommended the swap.

Paper as plates is not cute, just give me a paper boat you use for sides when asked for side plates lol

My son I went out for lunch and split the barbecue platter. I think it went for around $60. It included brisket, barbecue, this amazing sausage with cheese in it, macaroni and cheese, slaw, coleslaw and amazing homemade super thick tortillas. We both have really good appetites and my after my shepherd dog was also there who got a good bit of the food, and we still left some there unfortunately. Of course my dog could have eaten it all had I gave it to him :-) The food was so good! The brisket melted in your mouth and the barbecue was so fantastic! I am normally on keto but I cheated and had the tortillas which were amazing and the macaroni and cheese which was maybe the best I ever had! They also had some type of peppers mixed in with them which made them incredible! I highly recommend it and think it is a great value!

A hidden gem on Northside. Great beverages, bagels and brisket! What more could you want?! I love their iced chai with oat milk. Cannot recommend the Sunday brunch enough. My favorite brunch in Richmond. The pitmaster taco and the pork belly taco are both awesome. My boyfriend enjoys the PBLT and the huevos rancheros (which is big enough for two people to share). Don't miss this place.
