The food was really good. My husband and I both had burgers. The onion rings came with a fantastic spicy dipping sauce. The honey bun cake was heavenly. It is quite loud inside, especially with a large table next to us. The rainbow when we left was a bonus!

First, the good, of which there is much.

If you are heading north, go past Roanoke about 15-20 minutes and give this place a try. It is a small cafe that makes fresh food, made to order. There are basic menu items as well as some creative twists. It was those creative twists that drew me to try this place.

My choice was the Emily, which is a burger with Swiss, bacon aioli and shrimp. Fantastic. The dressing for Caesars salad had a kick to it. Everything that comes out of the kitchen for others looked delicious, especially the shrimp and grits. The toll House pie was also a treat.

Now the not-as-good

Parking is a challenge and it is a small cafe. But worth the wait.

My main issue was the bar. I dined alone on a Friday and expected to either wait for a table or sit at the bar, which I chose the latter. I had to find the lone seat that didn't have unclear dishes and which were never cleared. The wait staff also wasn't as attentive as needed. The dessert I ordered? I got that myself at the register, as it was never offered by the wait staff. In fact, I felt rushed to get out of there.

We were drawn because of the Google and Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. The Blackburn Burger (pictured) was fantastic! The half Mediterranean salad was good sized (also pictured) and had fesh ingredients. I ordered the sweet potato fries (pictured) because they come with molasses honey sauce YUM! I think a sweet dipping sauce should always be served with sweet potato fries.

This is my wife and I’s favorite restaurant! Best burgers, sweet potato fries, and wings. We actively recommend this place to our friends and family.

This place is AMAZING! We drive from Roanoke (about 25 miles) to eat here. We have been here 3 times now and tried something new each time. Everything is always fresh and so good from the burgers and fries to wings and even the crab cakes and DELICIOUS homemade chili. I can't even pick a favorite item because they are all so good. The food totally makes a place worth trying but this little restaurant also has friendly service and beautiful mountain views. MUST TRY!!!

Passing through and stopped here based on reviews. The views are beautiful, staff friendly, and our lunch was perfect. The fried green tomatoes were delicious for our app., kid’s meals were nice portions and very reasonably priced, and our burgers were fresh and very good! Collard greens were fresh too! Lots of choices so we hope to stop back by.

Best veggie plate around! We frequent FOTM because we're locals but I highly recommend this place for travelers, too. It's convenient from I-81 and it's a good, non-chain option before you hit Roanoke coming south. They are known for burgers and homemade specials but they have a housemade black bean burger that is superb. The veggie plate is my favorite anywhere. Best sweet potato fries around! And the side salad is entree sized :) The restaurant can get quite busy so be prepared but trust me, the view is worth it and the food is, too!

Foot of the Mountain is a must if you are in the Buchanan area. They have daily specials and a menu that has lots to choose from. The outdoor seating area gives you beautiful views of the mountains while you eat. The staff is very friendly and the prices are very fair. Whether you are a local or just passing through, stop by Foot of the Mountain you will not be disappointed.

We were on our way back from the natural bridge when we stopped for food. This place impressed me SO much! It was very delicious. I got the chili-style burger with sautéed asparagus and it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. Their sweet potato fries are delicious as well! For dessert I order the strawberry cake and the icing was so rich and yummy. Everything was very good and I definitely plan to return if I’m in town!

Very friendly atmosphere, homestyle food and good service. The wings were very tasty. They have the build-a-burger menu! that is what my wife got. All around nice place, if we come back through this way we will be stopping in again.
