La Barba Coffee - The Gateway

I had great time visiting this coffe shop, cool vibes and tasty latte. I had one large latte and nutella toast, both were on point!

I accidentally poured out my whole large latte all over the table and the 2 ppl in the counter were really polite, they helped me cleaning it and they went for the extra mile giving me another large latte for free and insisting not to pay for it! My day was full of tasks but with what happend I felt good. Thank you guys

The coffe is good, but I agree with the other reviewers in that it’s an acidic roast. I tried the cold brew today and I will try another option in search of a better taste. Ambiance is far too quiet, conversation was nearly at a whisper.

Don’t need an attitude with coffee.. but the coffee also does not taste good

La Barba at the Gateway is an excellent coffee bar with a chill atmosphere. They have a toast menu with some delectable selections. If you happen to be in Salt Lake City I recommend this place for late morning breakfast or an afternoon coffee.

Amazing toast and coffee! Great location within the confines of the walkable Gateway Mall. Everyone seems to complain about the coffee being “acidic” but they must not enjoy high quality beans that La Barba uses. Really fantastic will come again

Cozy place right in the middle of the plaza. Felt like a real millennial here.

I really don’t know if I like this place. I came a couple times and the service is not good.
It’s not a welcoming place, like warm. Needs more color. The baristas look like vampires.
It’s very weird. The coffee is good, but service needs to improve for sure!

Frustrating space. They decided to depart from a typical dark and cozy coffeehouse vibe for a white-on-white on gold accent (square tubing from the 80s). Completing the form-over-function motif, many of the stools are too tall for the counter, or the one communal table. Alternatively, guests can sit on plywood boxes painted grey, with a few limp pillows, which look themselves uncomfortable as they slide hopelessly against themselves. First-timers may miss the fact that there is seating all around the bar--perhaps to expose the windows overlooking second-story views of the plaza. That's great for the baristas, but I have to sit with my back to it (and instead have to stare at the tower of coffee mugs they have while they insisted on serving mine in a paper cup). And speaking of backs, there isn't a single seat with a back in the whole place. But surely all this counter seating would at least come with charging stations? There are maybe three outlets in the whole place, and none at the counter or table--so leave your laptop at home. Acoustics inside are like a highschool shower room, so don't linger unless it's dead inside. Overall, it is unwelcoming, and strangled in that pretentious, custom gold tubing. The message here is "buy your coffee and leave." Such a shame for the real estate they moved into. I'll happily walk the two extra blocks to their other location at Finca--at least over there their chairs fit their tables.

Great service and great location. The baristas here take their coffee seriously, which I like, but I wish the coffee was roasted in such a way that it wasn't as acidic as it is. Some people like it like this, but I wish there were options.

I ordered a black coffee. No frills or fluff black coffee!!! it took 20 minutes for the baristas (who look like they need to shower) to complete my order. And what was even more frusterating is that there were multiple people behind me who placed their order after me and received them.
Never coming here again thats for sure.
Also it was exremley over priced as well.
