My last two visits to Portland Brew East have been very frustrating experiences. Both times the person at the single cash register has spent at least 5 minutes making small talk with a customer ignoring the growing line behind them. I can overlook this happening once but after it happened a second time I will not be back; judging by the other people I saw leave line neither will many others. The only reason I did not give this place 1 star is because the coffee is pretty good if you can ever manage to place an order.

Cool spot and atmosphere, but the coffee wasn't anything to write home about.

The self serve pump machines remind me of a hotel lobby. Not really what I expect at a coffee shop, especially when they flip that iPad around and it asks for a tip.

Competition for coffee houses in Nashville is steep. This place is okay food-wise, but there are way better options. The one advantage they have is the upstairs area is good for meetings or anyone needing a semi-quiet work spot.

There are not many coffee shops around this area so this is a great find. From delicious coffee to yummy sandwiches, you can choose to sit up stairs or just to go. Outside seating is available for those who like to have their dog by thier side.

As a local, this is one of my favorite places to study. Free fast wifi, great coffee, and always friendly baristas. Also, LOVE their zucchini muffins. :) lots of seating upstairs, plenty of outlets, and tons of natural light. One of the best kept secrets in East Nasty.

Very good Cortado. A fairly spacious interior, although it doesn't feel all that expansive as it's on two floors, and each floor is rather small. A few outdoor tables on the sidewalk, although it's beside a fairly busy street so you'll experience some road noise.

Portland Brew East is exactly the right coffee house for this part of East Nashville. They serve very good beverages and food at fair prices, without pretense. It's a comfortable, clean, low-key environment with plenty of natural light. If you're looking for high-end fixtures, decor, and baristas wearing leather apothecary aprons, this ain't the place, but it trumps those places with its "just come in and hang out" vibe. First refill on house coffee is free and I believe it's just a $1 (and on the honor system at that) for additional refills. No matter how busy it looks downstairs, you can almost always find a spot to work or chill in the spacious upstairs area.

Coffee was delicious, but I especially recommend the gingerbread muffin! Quiet atmosphere with nice music—a good place to write or work, with free WiFi and plenty of seating.

I've been here a few times and service was so-so. The last visit, the service was horrible. The girl at the register completely ignored the fact that she had more customers and continued talking to her friend after completing her order. Another employee from the back noticed what was going on and came up to take my order. He was genuinely apologetic for his co-workers lack of interest.

Very cool street corner coffee house, there is seating outside for some good people watching, as well as ample seating inside and they even have a 2nd story for some quieter coffee lovers. In addition to their coffee, which is delicious, they also have some morning snacks (cookies, bagels and muffins) as well as a small menu for heartier foods like toast, eggs, avotoast, granola, fruit, yogurt, etc. I try to go here once a week (my son who is 2 LOVES coming here with me in the morning before daycare dropoff) and it has become a staple in our weekly routine.

Besides that, the location is good. There is street parking and a large paid parking lot in the back. You can go out for many places for dinner just walking distance from here (Rosepeper Cantina, Graze, WildCow, Eastland Cafe, etc) and then come here for a post meal coffee or tea. Or, you can come here for a casual wind down. All in all, love the vibe and love the coffee. The people that work here are also so nice and helpful! (they filled up my cafe au lait this morning in my coffee cup that I brought from home!)
