I do enjoy the coffee here, but it's so expensive. The bakery items are alright, but I wouldn't go out or my way for them. The Golden Kelly coffee is great! Just can't justify the price for the things here.

*UPDATE The strange focaccia bagels are only on Mondays. However, they still do not bother to put on the cream cheese. Drinks are still great. Changing to 3 stars.
Bluff city used to have breakfast perfected, but now I don't know how this place stays open. Bagels are now seasoned bread and a very far cry from anything resembling a bagel. If I wanted to be given unspreadable ice cold cream cheese to spread myself instead of one of the FOUR workers in an empty cafe, I'd go to Kroger. Sadly this place never learned "if its not broke, don't fix it."

Great coffee! I try to come every couple weekends to get some iced coffee before going to the farmer's market. Their smoothies also are pretty good. I have yet to try their breakfast sandwiches though.

I met David, the owner, at the Memphis Farmers Market last weekend. He was so friendly and easy to talk to and with a table full of delicious pastires I had to stay for a while! If you ever get a chance to stop by his booth make sure to say hi! The Cherry Cheese Coffee Cake was devoured way too quickly... and I hear the Strawberry Cake is to die for! I cant wait to back and try more!!! you cant leave the market without one of his goodies!!!! Thank you David :-) - Gretchen

Avoid this place if you can. Mold on the toilet paper in the bathroom. Given the wrong size drink and got attitude when asked for it corrected. My thank you was returned with a scoff. The girl behind the register was nice but the coffee attendant (wouldn't call her a barista) could use some lessons in drink making and people skills.

The coffee is fine and the pastries are good. The main issue for me is that their internet is terrible. For example, it took me 5 minutes for the internet to work well enough to write this review (from their shop) and I don't know if it will still be working when I hit publish. This is a problem as it is the main reason I like to come hang out at a coffee shop. They could get an easy 5 stars from me if they updated the speed and connectivity of the internet.

Typical coffee shop. The decor and offerings need to be improved.

Awful. They were supposed to close at 6:00pm. It was 5:30, my coffee was still 1/2 full and the OWNER (of all people) took it without saying a word. I said I was still drinking it, and he said, "Sorry, but we're trying to close. We've been here for a long time." They are 2 for 2 on rude, awkward service.
Plus, they don't serve regular coffee...... and it's in their freakin name! Other coffee shops that are downtown and serve great coffee with excellent service are the following: Tamp & Tap, Qahwa Coffee, and main street market (Ugly Mug coffee there is awesome).

Great breakfast sandwiches and the young man working was very helpful and personable! We enjoyed our coffee and smoothies with our sandwiches!

Best dining experience we had our entire stay in Memphis! And we tried Central BBQ, Rendezvous, Germantown Commissary, Gus's Famous Fried Chicken, Muddy's Bake Shop, and Gibson's Donuts -- all of the eateries recommended by urbanspoon, travel advisor and other internet sources Have to say that we enjoyed Muddy's Bake Shop, Gus's, Gibson's and Germantown Commissary, but nothing compared to Bluff City Coffee. And we happened upon this gem not because of internet research/reviews or our GPS, but because we drove by and it fit our bill and time constraints so we decided to give it a try. We were short of time, but needed breakfast before visiting the National Civil Rights museum and nearby choices was Arcade Restaurant that was featured in online reviews or Bluff City which we happened to notice that served coffee and breakfast items. So glad we decided on Bluff City. It was small, unassuming, no wait, and offered a nice selection of espressos, coffees, pastries and hot breakfast items. We had an espresso, americano, two breakfast sandwiches on cheese bagel and croissant, cherry yogurt cake, cherry pop tart, frittata, ham & gouda croissant, chocolate chip cookie and brownie.EVERYTHING EXCELLENT!! The cherry pop tart was out of this world! Brownie delivers an assault of the taste buds in sequential layers, the slow velvety fullness that fills your mouth that you experience only from fine grade chocolate, then a moment of saltiness from the baking soda that subsides into a warm, depth of chocolate again.
