Keeping it short and simple, you won't regret staying here. Tara and Mike are the most generous, kind-hearted, knowledgeable hosts ever! Clean, friendly, and in a great location. The fact the breakfasts and coffee are above and beyond is just a bonus.
Food was delicious and the time at breakfast was great. Mike and Tara were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were smaller, but they were very pleasant. The surroundings were beautiful and the time was definitely memorable. Look forward to visiting again.
My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Hisega Lodge in late July 2018. We absolutely loved this B&B. Mike, Tara and their family make you feel immediately at home in this beautifully restored 1908 lodge. The common area with library, fireplace and an amazing massage chair that was so welcome after days of driving and hiking. We stayed in the Ida room (king bed) which was comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was tight but certainly met our needs. Breakfasts were delicious! They gave us great dining recommendations in Rapid City (Kol and Tally’s Silver Spoon) and a few hiking spots to try. Would definitely stay here again and again!
This place was truly wonderful and the view from the Trout room is breathtaking! The new owner Tara is an amazing chef!! The breakfast we had every morning was the best I've ever had. I can't have gluten & every morning she had a gluten free option for me that was always delicious. They are very accommodating and make you feel like you are at home. We will now be regulars here for sure!!!
Absolutely great, the sound of the river at night was so peaceful and calming, gourmet pizza was delicious. It's off the beaten path and you'll see countless wildlife on your way to the lodge at night!! The owners are incredibly helpful and accommodating as well!! Great central location to see all of what South Dakota has to offer!!
Great place for a quiet get away in the black hills. You feel like you are at home and not in a hotel. Accommodations are great. Setting and location are beautiful and tucked away in the gorgeous rocky hillside with a trout fishing stream 30 feet away from the front door. I will more the definitely go back!
I, and others in my family, have enjoyed this lovely experience many times! Cordial staff, delicious breakfasts in communal setting so you meet other travelers, great jumping off point for touring the beautiful Black Hills, all in a unique pastoral setting: Creek rolling by while sheer cliffs encompass canyon! Quiet as no traffic, yet only short distance from accessible highway. I grew up in Rapid City and highly recommend!
The rooms themselves are nothing special, but everything else about Hisega Lodge is fabulous! It is convenient to both Rapid City (25 minutes) and Mt. Rushmore (45 minutes.) It's in a beautiful and historic location. The breakfasts are awesome, and host Carol is a great chef and area guide. When we bemoaned the lack of a good deli or market in the immediate area--one of its few drawbacks--she made us great sandwiches to take on our hike up Mt. Harney, free of charge. If you're going to the Black Hills and want a rustic location, Hisega Lodge is the place to stay!
Carol, her husband and their warm, friendly staff are amazing here. They take customer service to exceptional levels and make you feel like you are part of the family. I witnessed it first hand as I stopped in to ask for help and watched their interactions with their guests. I was a local hiker who's car broke down up the road. They offered me coffee, gave me a ride back to my car and jumped the battery for me. Then told me I was welcome to leave my car at their lodge anytime I come down to hike so I will be safe. They are truly the best people. I can not recommend this lodge more! The scenery around the lodge is absolutely stunning and has become one of my favorite areas. Pictures do not do it justice.
My husband and I celebrated our 8th anniversary with a night at the Hisega Lodge. After looking through multiple different options for rooms, I’m happy we settled on Hisega. Excellent service, yummy breakfast, and even better coffee. Loved the location, such a peaceful area.
