We ate here today the food was wonderful
We stopped here on our drive from Cherokee to Knoxville after seeing billboards. It was crowded on a Saturday morning so assumed that as a sign for good food. After waiting a half hour + for (what should be) quick serve breakfast items, my husband and I were terribly disappointed in our food. My "breakfast bowl" at $9.99 consisted of dry tasteless home fries, extremely salty combination of bacon and gravy, and the eggs I orderded over easy were close to over hard. I also ordered toast (which cost extra!) and it was limp with barely a tan...far from TOAST. My husband ordered over easy eggs, hasbrowns, bacon, and toast. Same issue with his toast, plus limp bacon, and hasbrowns that were FAR from crispy. At least his eggs were cooked probably. To top it all off, our food wasn't even served hot - close to cold. This place is supposed to be a classic diner and it felt like they just don't put in a reasonable effort to cook and quality check basic, classic breakfast items that are a staple of any diner. Sad. I regret not sending our food back but also didn't want to wait another half hour in hope of them getting it right after it was evident there wasn't much effort in the first place. You would have thought our server would have inquired about how our meal was - especially seeing I barely touched mine. Oh well...they got our money this trip but we won't be returning. Sad first experience.
We just discovered the Cafe, loved the homey atmosphere and down home dishes. Our server, Hayley was very friendly and attentive, Prices and food portions both reasonable. Definitely recommend. We. Will be going back.
I'm always skeptical about cafes attached to gas stations, but after reading the raving reviews I had to try it! There were soo many options, I couldn't decide what to order! The portions are generous, and the food is delicious. The pulled pork wasn't dry and nicely seasoned. I got 5 chicken tenders, which I think is a large portion for only $10. The only disappointment I had was the mac and cheese. It just wasn't what I expected. I ate it and it tasted fine, but reminded me of KFC rather than homemade. Their cookies and milkshakes are also excellent and generously sized. Overall 5 stars without hesitation! P.S. Bring a thick jacket! I had on a long sleeve shirt with a hoodie and couldn't stop shivering! My husband who is naturally hot natured was also freezing.
A good local option for dining. Everytime I’ve been for breakfast I have really enjoyed it. The menu for lunch has a lot of choices. I liked my burger just fine today but should have gotten one of my comfort foods instead. Breakfast is a highlight and lunch is good as well. Give it a shot
Food was ok, for the most part. Typical diner food. Waitress was nice, but.. it took 3 attempts to get a club sandwich made with 'Turkey only' (one of their options). After 3 attempts, and the correct version arriving when the rest of us were finishing up...you'd think they would have given some sort of discount.
We had a 4+ hour drive home from Pigeon Forge, TN to Greensboro, NC on Mother's Day after my daughter had competed bright and early in her gymnastics competition that morning. I had three hungry and tired teenagers when we stopped off to get lunch 15 minutes before closing time. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious and so fresh, we were getting ready to give up and just settle for yucky fast food, so glad we didn't!
Absolutely delicious, Mama at the dinner fixed some country food to die for. I had the fried bologna sandwich and okra... and the desserts were so good I had two slices carrot cake and cherry almond cake.
Food was very good. Our waitress Krista was friendly and attentive. You have to try the dessert.
Not sure why I cant post a picture BUT... My husband called in a patty melt... the phone showed my name on their caller ID (our phones are in my name). They gave him a completely BURNT black sandwich (you couldnt tell if it was rye, sourdough, or what) thats how burnt it was. Then I posted it on facebook and their employee Jade said I took the sandwitch home and burnt it myself!!! This place is discusting and has rodent issues. They have no clue how to efficently run a resturant as they are to conserned about charging the customers for a spoonful of cheese on their grits, than giving them what they ordered while their food is hot. I live in the community and would love to grab a sandwitch there from time to time, BUT, if they have an employee that doesn't like you, they allow that to effect your quality of food. Sad but true!!!
I got the hamburger steak, with grilled onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms. Also smothered with mushroom gravy. Along with baked potato and collard greens. Plus a dinner roll. Every item was delicious. I was a very hungry trucker when I walked into the establishment. For dessert I added the cherry cake. Definitely will be back.
Stopped at Sam's Mart for the night & decided to try the Haywood 209 Cafe. Definitely NOT the old style greasy spoon, but ABSOLUTELY IS wonderful! The servers are CHOCK FULL of southern hospitality, the food is VERY reasonably priced for the portions, the burgers are phenomenal & the fried okra is the best ANYWHERE. Because we will have to leave out before they open in the morning, we picked up a couple homemade cinnamon buns for breakfast & a couple homemade brownies for tomorrow night. I honestly can't wait to come back again! Thank you guys for an all around wonderful experience!
Kind people and amazing food!!!! Well worth the stop!
This place was absolutely amazing! The service was a 10/10, the food was amazing as well as the price for it! We stopped here while visiting for the weekend and gave this place a shot and I would highly recommend doing so!
I have never had fried okra that was so fresh and delicious. I was delighted by the black bean burger as well, my boyfriend loved the trout. The beautiful scenery and friendly service put this place over the top!
Our meals today, Sunday March 26, 2023 were awful. We've eaten there many times and alway gottest good food. Today was different. The cornbread was stone cold and dry. Obviously leftover from yesterday. Greens were undercooked. My fried okra was fine but my husband's came out in two big clumps. Mac and cheese was room temp, not hot or even warm. All I can give it is that the ice tea was good. I don't know what happened, or who was cooking, but they need to go. If this had been our first visit, it would be our last. As it is I will give them another try...not so sure my husband will though.
Great home cooking place truck broke down rite by here came to eat while truck was getting repaired loved it
Delicious food. Stopped here on our way back to Charlotte from Nashville. I love hotdogs but I was craving a good burger so I got both and I was not disappointed. The burger was a great size, flavorful and fresh. The perfect burger. The hotdog weenie was great, maybe they use a local place, it didn’t taste like it came from a store bought package. The buns were also a star, very fresh and soft, again they didn’t taste store bought from a chain. The sides: fries were good, greens were good, the mac I could have skipped-nothing special there. Got a milkshake was was yummy too. The ladies running the counter were super friendly, they seemed like a family working together. They were chatty and answered my questions. My only regret is that I don’t live near by and came back sooner. This place is the epitome of a great diner. I’m glad we stopped by. I was somewhat skeptical given the location but previous good reviews won me over. Super clean and family friendly. Safe. Give it a try!!
What a great place to eat ! I was hesitant as it is attached to a gas station, but WOW. Had a wonderful garden salad with locally grown vegetables, BLT sandwich and Swiss mushroom burger were exceptional. Dessert was Peach turnover and creamsicle cake. All outstanding. Our waitress with the great arm sleeve of tats was professional and so pleasant. Will be a regular stop in the future!
This little truck stop / Cafe is hands down the best place to eat within a hundred miles either way of I-40 . The people are nice . Cooks and waiters . Food is great . I'd advise anyone running i-40 to stop .
