This place is a real treat! Lots of local beans, primarily focused on pour over black coffee for bean tasting. They also have tasting chocolate and a few other things that I didn’t get to try. Also some yummy banana bread. The owner was friendly and highly knowledgeable about coffee. This, and Paradise, were the two best coffee spots I found during my week on the island.

Koana is the best coffee shop on the Big Island! Brian is knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate in his effort to provide customers with the highest quality beans/coffee around. This is my second time here and I will continue to make it a priority every time I'm close to Mountain View.

A bespoke coffee shop nestled in Mountain View. Exceptionally well curated selection of coffee, tea, and chocolate. If you respect coffee as a craft you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not stopping in.

My partner and I were pleasantly surprised at the flavors of these drinks. They do take time to create but well worth the wait. Besides patience is a virtue. I got the special toasted marshmallow spiced mocha with a medium roast. Loved it, the sweet marshmallow blended nicely with spiced chocolate. My partner got the koana recommendation, he describes his drink as perfection, no dairy needed.

One of the best coffee experience I ever had and I only wish I had more time here. The coffee was amazing, the Lava shot delicious, the hospitality unrivaled. Thank you, Brian, for the stories, the education, and the best experience on the Big Island!

Prices are a bit scary walking in, but just go into it knowing you'll enjoy some of the tastiest coffee you'll ever have. Got to talk with some of the employees for a while, friendliest folks you'll ever meet, and knowledgeable too. Drinking chocolate was amazing as well, highly recommend. Look forward to recommending to buddies on the mainland! (Bakery next door is a great pairing too)

Such a treat to experience coffee with someone so passionate about and committed to their craft. Owner was so friendly and took his time with each customer, providing options and recommendations from several available roasts. Kids enjoyed their hot chocolate, as well as the board games in the room next door to the main shop.

Coffee and tea enthusiasts definitely a must visit and taste! Curated tea and coffee flavors. We got white and oolong tea (BI grown). Pour over looked amazing, but we didn’t try yet. Pro Tip: get their hot chocolate shot and pair with one of the pour overs. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Aloha

I'm sure many others here would give this place a 6th Star if it were possible. It's that good. The owner, Brian, is a genuinely nice human being, and a dedicated master of his craft. Reserve at least 30 minutes if you come here to revel in the full experience. We will remember our visit here to Koana, fondly, for years to come! Mahalo -Vince & Kristen

Had a amazing start to the day with some specialty coffee and local chocolate. Service was lovely. Cute scrapbook of the progression of the building over the years. Would highly recommend stopping there for coffee and grabbing delicious mochi donuts next door.

The place for coffee purists, with very intentional coffee. The brewmaster / owner was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate! They offer only milk free coffee extractions of some really specialty roasts, which gives the opportunity to learn and try something new. We ended up returning multiple times. Highlights were the champagne process pour over, drinking chocolates, and hojicha latte.

This is a must-see on the Big Island! We spent a lovely few hours here talking with the owner, Brian, and some locals. The coffee is amazing, we had a specialty fermentation pour over and smoked lava mocha. We also had one of their mousse cakes, which was fabulous. We returned twice over our week-long stay on the big island. Can’t recommend highly enough, you have to see it!

My husband and I were very excited about going to Koana Coffee. When we walked in there was no hello from both owner and rainbow haired woman whom was sitting down first. We did not know she worked there. We slowly walked around the shop. They have nice items for sale, the only reason I gave one star was from the warm welcome of their dog. As we were heading towards coffee counter, the rainbow hair lady looked at my husband with no welcome look, just a stare with no hospitality. The owner was knowledgable about coffee but never looked at us once. He was more interested in people that already got their drink and kept us waiting. Idk if he thinks local residence is not important or don't know anything about coffee, but it was not classy at all , while visitors he went the extra mile. Disheartening , we waited for him to come back to take our order. I don't think I will recommend my ohana to go there...we would have purchased some of the items and bought coffee. It looks like my other review was taken down. I am wondering if it was the owner that reported it because he doesn't want any bad reviews. I am being honest with my review, this was how we were treated.

This is a very cute coffee shop and I would recommend trying it out. The owner and staff are very kind. The mocha and hot chocolate are unique and spicy. The coffee drinks we ordered were not our favorite but I think that was mostly personal preference.

I just recently moved to the Big Island and tried Koana coffee a few days ago. I've been back every day since. Not only is Brian (owner) and the staff (Becca and Nikki) super friendly, welcoming, and helpful ... the coffee and goodies are DELICIOUS!. I tried the medium roast drip coffee and they gave me a sample of the lava shot which was so creamy and had an awesome hit of spice at the end. It's great to sip with a cup of drip coffee. I also tried their oolong tea which is locally supplied. It was light and not overpowering which I enjoy given I'm still learning about different teas. The shop also has banana bread from local bakers and I ate a loaf in just two nights by myself (sad but true.) It was that good. I can't wait to try their ice cream sandwiches as well! I heard that is perfection! I really love the atmosphere and vibe there. It's great to see how close and supportive everyone is of the local farms and local artists. There is a wall of unique and fun pieces created by local artists that you can purchase and plenty of bagged coffee and chocolate are available as well. This coffee shop has me hooked and they have really made me feel right at home! YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT! (I added a photo of the super friendly owner, Brian, and his epic roasted marshmallows that go on top of their seasonal coffees. It makes the shop smell so good!)

Came here with a few friends for coffee after grabbing donuts and THEY DO NOT PLAY with their coffee. They know their stuff and they are passionate about it which I think is the best part. We loved sitting here doing crosswords so much that we talked about it to all of our friends for days lol. Also the quality of both the coffee and tea were amazing thank you, aloha <3

Slow coffee… a dark roasted Kona coffee meticulously made “pour over” style was as good as it smelled. We relished each sip - it may have been made slowly… found it difficult to drink it slowly :)

Amazing attention to detail on drinks and the cake is just out of this world.
