Really comfy spot to do homework or read. They were super busy and the barista was kind enough to make sure I looked for a seat before getting my coffee to stay. They have a mix of outdoor seating and indoor seating of tables with seats, armchairs and booths. It’s got a really cute atmosphere, they don’t play music too loud and there’s outlets. Great spot on the south side. Oh! And the coffees really good. Would definitely come back.

Good coffee and food. I found the service to be pretty slow. I had intended to sit down for 10 minutes to eat the bread I bought, but there were no tables available. Seems like the space could be arranged better to accommodate both the laptop warriors staking out tables for hours all alone, and the people who want to drop in and out. Overall, a nice place. I would go back when in the area.

This place may have some of the best coffee in the city (even though it's not local). I also love the owner and staff here. They are so helpful and genuinely seem to care about the clientele. Great for a quick bite or breakfast to go. Atmosphere is is also a plus and they have outdoor seating. They try to accommodate dog owners as part of their theme.

A great Pittsburgh coffee shop with above average coffee as well as a huge assortment of tea. Tucked away in South side it has a fantastic intimate outdoor seating area as well as plenty of comfortable seating inside. Walking through the shop is like stepping into an art museum with paintings done by Pittsburgh's own Barron Batch, adorning every wall. The artist also frequents the coffee shop and does many of his infamous "free painting drop offs" as well so you may find a beautiful work of art to accompany your Saturday morning coffee. So come to Big Dog not only for the coffee, but the art and aesthetic as well.

First off--the coffee is amazing. They use Intelligentsia coffee, and it's delicious. I get their cold brew, and it's not just rich and smooth in flavor but it's also strong to keep you going through your studies/day. They have many tables (mostly smaller for individual or pair studying), most with outlets! There's also an outdoor section!!!

They do pour overs and other handmade coffees. They use intelligentsia beans. And they had more than one choice for the pour over. Great ambience and decor. Polite and efficient staff. Every table was nearly taken so this place is busy, but not at all noisy which is super nice.
The only minor issue - if the temp is in high 80s, don't leave the door open. Close it and turn the A/C on please. For people who like the "outdoors" they can sit at the patio, but I don't need to be sweating while drinking my coffee.

Nikolai the owner is always incredibly welcoming. Fantastic ambience and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. They use intelligentsia coffee beans, which I love. The beans are always fresh and not over roasted for consistency like some of the big roasters out there. Baron Batch artwork on the walls accents the rustic fixtures throughout. FYI steamed milk beverages (lattes etc) are steamed at a slightly lower temperature for maximum flavor, if you like your beverages at a higher temp simply ask for "extra hot".

Favorite coffee shop in the city! They have everything you need. Tea, coffee, espresso, snacks, and cool art on the walls. The baristas are always super nice. The patio is also a very relaxing place to catch some sun, whenever it's actually out.

Went to Big Dog back in early 2016. I didn’t know much about coffee other than anything outside of a pot of coffee was fancy. Starbucks was really my only experience with coffee shops. So I ask if they have a drink and the lady working rudely goes this isn’t Starbucks. And at this point I’m already nervous bc I don’t know what anything on the menu means. So I just ordered like a cappuccino and have never been back. I now go to a different coffee shop that is more laid back and less snobby about coffee culture.

My point is this could have been a chance to teach someone about the different options and explain to someone the ins and outs of basic styles of ways to prepare espresso. Instead I felt insulted bc I didn’t know how to properly order my coffee.

Great little coffee shop hidden away on the Southside. Such a cozy and warm atmosphere! We visited on a warm evening and enjoyed the patio out back. My daughter had a coffee and I had herbal tea. The menu has quite a variety. The staff was friendly. It was a pleasure to visit.
