Coffee was good, price was fair and even though we didn't stay or look around much, it seemed like a nice place to hang out for a drink. My only little issue was the to-go cups and the lids didn't seem to go together. The lids would not stay on securely and popped off my wife's cup, spilling some of her drink. Luckily it didn't burn but would be worth looking into and correcting. Other than that, nice little spot!

One of the best roasters and coffee places in the city. Good, spacious place to set up work if that's your thing. Coffee is smooth and buttery - no acidic aftertaste. Staff is friendly and fast. If you're willing to travel to the burbs, check this place out.

Back when Starbucks was the only coffee shop on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, most of us thought it was the bee's knees.
Evidently, a lot of people still do, because it's always crowded. But neighborhood people know Chestnut Hill Coffee Company is the place to go.
The coffee is richer, more full-bodied, with less acid. Their lattes and mochas (along with their other drinks) are expertly and decoratively prepared. A latte here really means a thick, foamy latte--not a Starbucks coffee with milk in it.
At a busy time, there's a line to, and sometimes out, the door. For all that, they're usually well-staffed and efficient.
A nice selection of fresh-baked goodies (not the stuff that is shipped in bulk to Starbucks).
There's seating on two levels. For all that, at a busy time, you might have a hard time finding a seat, but I would say 4 out of 5 times, I've found a nice place to sit and sip my drink.
Go!

Excellent and friendly service. Stop in if you are looking for a great atmosphere and quality coffee. I don't live in the area any more, but always try to pop in for a quick cup or relax for an hour when we're in the neighborhood.

I love this place. One of my students recommended it, and it's been my coffee shop of choice since then. I usually take home a bag of whole bean coffee once a week. The beans are consistently outstanding, and their aren't many other roasters in philly that can beat their quality to price ratio.

The coffee was excellent, and my only wish is that the bakery shelf would have had a wider selection. All the flaky pastries were well represented (croissants from almond to chocolate and danish), but I would have liked to see scones. Perhaps I was there too late in the morning (around 9:30) to get that.
I'm not from Philadelphia, so I wasn't aware of Germantown. Given the setting, Chestnut Hill Coffee Company is definitely the coffee place you'd want to see here.

By far one of my favorite coffee shops. The staff is always friendly and the fresh ground coffee is some of my favorite to brew at home. The actual coffee shop is very cozy and can be a great place to get a bit of work done in the morning.

One afternoon, I just so happened to be roaming around Chestnut Hill and had been meaning for quite a while to check out this shop. I had reached my coffee quota for the day, so I got a plain butter croissant and sat down to enjoy it since I had some time to spare. The environment is comfortable, calm, and features an upstairs seating area should the lower level get crowded. I can imagine this would be a great place for Chestnut Hill College students to study or for there to be live music!

Enjoyed the ambience of the place, staff were nice and the whilst I'm not an aficionado... coffee was good. Nice place to relax with friends, do some work or just chill on your own. There's an upstairs seating area but we didn't sit there.

It's a nice shop with a good bit of seating, always hosting a college crowd. Food selection is pretty good as well. What let me down was the coffee. They roast on site so you'd think they'd take it pretty seriously but the baristas are hit or miss (some are really good, others barely Starbucks caliber) and they're heavily focused on the current trend of third wave light roasted coffees. Even their espresso is on the light side. I've purchased whole beans twice, both times labeled as medium-dark roasts but both times the beans were bone dry and just north of cinnamon colored. They seem to source very high quality green coffees, but they seem set on never roasting past City. A shame because the dry processed Honduran I bought the last time I was there would have been amazing if they had taken it to Full City or even a bit further.
Disclaimer: I'm a retired coffee roaster so if this all sounds a bit snobbish, it kinda is. Younger roasters seem intent on blindly following trends instead of taking the time to fully understand their raw beans and roast them to bring out their full potential. Some beans really are best at lighter roasts, but some aren't. If you're not willing to go darker then you're missing out on what the beans have to offer.
