Found my favorite blend of coffee here (Manzano, El Salvador). The food menu is minimal to small bakery items and pastries. The environment is great, although it may get a bit distracting on movie nights. Staff is almost too friendly, as my order's been forgotten more than once as they like to interact with customers at the bar.
Don't expect an outlet on Sunday nights as they tend to fill up with OU students who've procrastinated all weekend (speaking from experience). There are several couches available though and I've never met a person not willing to share a table.
Great place overall, and I'm there almost every week.

I would have to say this is one of my top favorite coffee shops ever. Not only because everything tastes amazing always, it just feels like going home every time I get to go there. I live in Oklahoma City, so every time I go to Norman I try to get over to Gray owl.

I'm not good at ordering coffee that I want but they are as helpful as they can be to get you what you want. They have boardgames and books in the back corner and a couch on which to play them/ read or you can study at one of their big tables. Their food selection is limited but good. Great study spot and meeting spot.

Was excited to try a coffee house in Norman that my wife and I have not been to. Wanted to avoid the cookie cutter Starbucks experience. That said, maybe 20years of drinking coffee all over the world hasn't been enough experience to appreciate the uh.... Unique, different take on basic coffee drinks served here? For a MUCH BETTER EXPERIENCE, go to Stella Nova a short distance from this place. Not only is the coffee incredibly good, the staff is less pretentious and a lot better at delivering a winning customer experience. For instance, if the coffee tastes burnt you can return it to the front, and they won't tell you why you're wrong, they'll happily replace it from a fresh pot no questions asked. (Could learn from this ppl @ grey owl)
Maybe this place uses an organic... Something, that makes a vanilla latte with soy taste so nostalgicly like the inside of a dry goods cattle feed store? With a thick, brown, malt-o-meal type grainy head on it that you can eat. Or maybe there is a process that's super proprietary that the guy in the rose colored Lennon glasses uses to make just a basic cup of drip coffee taste old and overheated (stale and burnt). Whatever the case, this isn't some place I'll spend money at twice. It's a coffee place that can't make me a cup of coffee better than my kuerig at home. And when returning a cup, they'll happily tell you all about the somewhat eclectic local organic ingredients they use that make your taste buds the wrong party in the conversation. Just don't expect them to return with a replacement cup that's going to taste any better.
We spent $3 on a large coffee, it was terrible. Didn't finish it.
We spent $7 on the vanilla latte w/soy. It was returned for a basic cup of coffee with no refund for the difference in price.
This is a coffee place for people that maybe are in college and are just discovering a break from traditional coffee ingredients. But not for people that know and love coffee how the rest of the world prepares it.
On a positive note, it's a chill atmosphere (probably due to the lack of caffeine) and doesn't smell much like coffee (shocker). Music is indie and the decor is "look its another college coffee house with local 'art' on all the walls, and signature art deco couch". After this experience here, I'm jaw dropped by this place's yelp and google review ratings. This place has positives, but coffee isn't one of them. Which is kind of their only purpose for being here..

Glad this coffee shop survived 2020. Coffee always good and staff always great.

The coffee and tea are pretty good, but if you're looking for a quiet place to study or work- keep looking. Their quintessential hipster music is played so incredibly loud, it is impossible to think. They are open late- which is the main reason I would go. But after having to listen to a monologue rant they were playing last night that dropped the F-bomb every other word, I will be finding a new place to study. So many people I know have stopped going there in the evenings just because of how loud their music is played. I just don't understand why they play the music so loud when 95% of the customers are studying or reading.

Best coffee in norman. The staff are the best and I always feel welcome when I come in. Different baked goods every day so I'm always surprised. Ask for a cortado, or if you like something sweet a Chai latte

I really enjoy coffee, and normally have my trusty French press by my side. So of course I stopped in Gray Owl Coffee while in Norman in hopes of discovering a hidden coffee-lover's jewel. I ordered a large (unflavored) latte and was very happy with the taste and quality. The espresso had a nice roasty flavor and the foam on top was wonderfully creamy, complete with lovely latte art. From what I could tell, they use Topeca beans, an Oklahoma roaster. I asked the barista what their most popular pastry was, and he said the scones. So to complete my latte experience I ordered a raspberry scone, which was handmade and delicious! They also had blackberry and apple butter scones, as well as several other pastry options. Their baked goods are handmade from "mostly organic ingredients," according to their chalkboard sign. The bakery selection also included some gluten free options.

This place has a very trendy atmosphere, they hang bikes from the ceilings, they keep boardgames on hand, and they make a mean Americana. What more could you want? Also, they keep event postings. Personally as a black coffee fan I recommend the Americana and the cold brew, but they have plenty of options, no flat white, though I'm sure you could ask. They also serve baked goods: scones, muffins. I don't recommend Honey Cake (or Honey Bread, I can't actually remember what its called) its like banana bread without any of the things that make banana bread good.
Really Gray Owl is a Gray-t place to go.
