Always great coffee and tea and their pies, quiche, and baked goodies are the best in town. Great atmosphere with a nice energy and friendly people - the perfect place to hang out, eat something that goes well with whatever you're drinking, do some homework, meet with clients, chill with friends or even just yourself.

This place is special. High ceilings hover above a Williamsburgish brick walled Elliot Bay mis'en scene, accented with wood floors supporting the hippest of Espresso eateries and the largely collegiate crowd. Old and young alike easily commune with the wise NW spun Montana baristas for some quality crema and or treats baked in the back before sitting at one of the plethora of fine wooden tables to read, study, converse or construct verse. Atmosphere is laid back with a healthy dose of depth.

It used to be a peaceful place a good place but lately there has been a person there that is obnoxiously panhandling by attempting to sing unfortunately she can't sing with a darn and it sounds more like screeching than singing she sits in the coffee shop all day and comes out to beg every 5 to 10 minutes I live above the break and can hear her yell her songs and have watched her chase people to about the pet shop before returning to her shopping cart of belongings a few times she had followed me into the street to panhandle me on my way to work I am sick of it I have complained verbally and in writing to the break and they will not do anything about it so I will no longer do business with them there are better coffee shops in Missoula then the break

Highly disappointed. I went in to grab a drip coffee for husband. One person being helped, as in paid just preparing drinks. Two people making drinks do not acknowledge 2 different customers walk in at different times and stand in line. By the time they helped us, there were 2 different REGULARS that had come in and been helped. Right away. When I mentioned my 5 minute patient wait, they say sorry we didnt see you. Thanks. When I attempted to pay with my card, I was told a $3 minimum... I had my husband take $2.50 cash to them... for a coffee I waited 5 minutes of worst kind of customer service. Should have left it and went to Liquid Planet like I wanted, just the location was 2 BLOCKS closer for a quick stop... I see from other reviews this is a common occurrence here.

Very awkward to call, ask for the manager about a potential coffee donation for a good cause, then have the employee forget to mute the phone & overhear "I don't really want to talk to them, tell them I'm not here." Definitely the least community-oriented coffee place in town, which is probably why you don't hear locals recommend them

I love Break Espresso. I'm there every Saturday morning for a meeting, and it works very well for us. It's very Missoula, with it's mismatched wooden tables and chairs, exposed brick, local art, and general relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Drinks are made to order, and there are always pies, quiches, cookies, and sandwiches available. Highly recommend!
I only gave 4/5 stars because the WiFi can be less than great at times, and the back section is very dark, but those things won't impact everyone.

Beautifully cozy little hub near the college. I was visiting from out of town and wanted to try something more local. My go to is an Americano and it was lovely ! Not too watered, not too bitter, just rich, dark, and smooth.
The barista working that day was wonderful - welcoming and cheerful and fast! I had barely mentioned my drink when she handed it to me.
Seemed like a good spot to work on laptops or set out to wander downtown.

Their mocha pecan pie is out of this world good.

The Break is one of my favorite places for coffee in Missoula. I come here weekly for bible study before school and I always look forward to it. They have great coffee and great baked goods. My favorite is the pumpkin gingerbread muffin! The atmosphere is cozy and homey and overall it's a great place. Highly recommend stopping by at some point!
