1889 Coffee House

I've been here twice with no luck. The coffee tastes extremely watered down (I had a mocha the the first week they were open, and a latte the second time I visited). Not sure why all of the reviews are saying "perfect coffee" but if you typically like anything other than Light Roast don't waste your money here. When I had the mocha, I couldn't tell there was even chocolate in it. I did have a muffin the first time I visited, and it was fine. They are very friendly and quick, but no amount of customer service is worth bad coffee. Edit: A year later, I decided to try again. Their coffee still tastes terrible. The only redeeming quality is that their cinnamon rolls are pretty good. How they won "Best Coffee in Helena", I will never understand.

Drink was good. Cinnamon roll was under cooked. The last 3 times I was here. This item was under cooked. I have had the Cinnamon roll before and it was awesome and cooked to perfection. I have been disappointed the last 3 times.

Went here for a date night coffee, had good service and the coffee was great. Atmosphere is incredible.

When this establishment first opened it was amazing. Great service, great coffee.

Now, the coffee is watery and flavorless and the service is uninviting and half-hearted.

Today was the worst. I went through the line, ordered a Vanilla Latte with an extra shot, a cinnamon roll, and a cup of chicken wild rice soup. Adds up to $15.15, I give the person my filled coffee card, that should take off the cost of the coffee. The person swipes my card, then looks at the coffee card and realizes it's full, they start a new one for me and hand it to me, keeping the old one. I went home and checked the balance. I was charged $18.18, not only did she steal my coffee card, she gave her self a $3 tip. I never got a receipt and I never entered my pin or signed for anything.

Edit: Contacted the manager, he got everything squared away, so at least there's that. Bumping up rating to a 3 star

Coffee is excellent. But whoever the girl at the drivethru is does nothing but destroy the 1889 brand. Zero interest in being friendly. Girl working morning of 8/21/2021. I’ve never heard “oh my God” in a frustrated way as I have from her while ordering. It was very weird. Id rather have good service.

On my way out of town and stopped by this great looking place, from the outside, to get a "good" cup of coffee.
I asked if the coffee was fresh and it was affirmed.
Well, this was really one of the worst cups of coffee I have had in a long time. It was barely warm and the flavor was "dead". Basically, not good coffee.
It is a shame though, the building is nice inside and out but the execution is poor. Also the counter was dirty and needs some TLC.
I try to always support local when I travel but in this case simply very disappointing.

I love this place so much! I work from home 50% of the time for my job, and I've made 1889 my office away from home. The employees are always kind, happy, and fast. The coffee is great. The inside is always very clean. And I work out just so I can eat their absolutely amazing muffins!

I didn't like the breve or strange muffin/scone, but staff was nice.

Absolutely marvelous! Last meal before braces and it was amazing. I had the hot pastrami sandwich and I felt like I was having pastrami and pickles straight from the New York delis. If you are trying to decide where to go to lunch, go here. Best sandwich ever. Great coffee too. They also have soups, salads, and tons of sweet treats. GO HERE!!
