So happy to see this bakery still in business. I had to go while visiting my hometown. I even bought a cheese coffee cake and brought it all the way back to Arizona for my Husband he really enjoyed it and yes it survived the plan trip. đ

Staff are hilariously stubborn old women. The donuts are okay. The breakfast is fine. Come here to experience the 1940s but expect the real 1940s

If you like your cookies hard as rocks, this is your place. If, like me, you like them soft and chewy, go somewhere else. I was really disappointed. Friendly enough staff and clean shop.

I have NEVER been treated so rudely ever by anyone ever. I would never ever ever go to this bakery again. South Haven is a TOURIST destination. People go there with their kids and, surprise surprise, their pets. It was by no means packed when we were there â not one person sitting on their chairs or using their tables outside. Why would they? There were GIANT signs taped to the tables making it very clear that if you werenât a customer you were NOT welcome anywhere near their tables.
I got lost from my dad and daughter and stood off to the side of the path so people could walk by as I tried to call my father. I had a 2.5 pound puppy under my arm. Iâm not kidding you, every single person in South Haven that day stopped to ask about our dog because heâs just so cute. Everyone! If not they said something as we walked by. He was harmless and clean. I literally set him partially on a dirty table so I could shift him to my other arm and make a phone call. I swear the mean old lady in the bakery was waiting for me to do something, ANYTHING, because the millisecond my puppyâs tail touched the table she banged on the window behind me.
First, it scared the living heck out of me and the two women on the bench across from me (also asking about my dog!). Second, she must receive pleasure from making people feel like idiots because it was not more than a 1/2 second before she slammed her hands on the windows. Next time youâre there donât pay the bakery a visit, just look at the hand/fist prints on the inside of the windows. I bet there are zillions! I get it, a dog doesnât need to be on anyoneâs table. But the table was DIRTY and needed to be cleaned anyhow. If it was clean and there were people there maybe I wouldâve shifted to the bench on the sidewalk. But in trying to call my dad and trying to free a hand and trying to keep my mask on and trying to social distance, I made one tiny error in judgment and there she was â waiting at the gates of H-E-double-hockey-sticks â to judge my actions and send me into her fiery pit for all eternity.
Get a grip people. It is a TOURIST SPOT â people have animals. From the other reviews I read it sounds like this is a pattern. Not really sure how theyâre still open in that prime, South Haven location.
Skip it!! Run for the hills. There are lots of bakeries that wonât insult you, kick you out, sell you stale cookies, or bang on the windows in your general direction.

While staying at the Lakeshore Resort in Saugatuck, I had the pleasure of eating the cranberry scones which were delivered from the this bakery. The scones were the finest, most moist scones I,be ever tasted. Our good fortune is that we are heading for a 2 day stay in South Haven next. There's no question about where we will be eating breakfast!

We got some blueberry-themed Michigan-shaped cookies for my daughter's birthday. They were great! Good location downtown in South Haven for baked goods!

My husband and I were exploring South Haven Tuesday morning. We had a great time going into the different shops and falling in love with this Michigan beach town. From all of our walking, we got a little hungry and stopped in Golden Brownâs Bakery for a snack before heading back to our condo. I was ecstatic to see all of the gluten free options that the bakery had. It is not often that I have the ability to enjoy a donut, cupcake or brownie so I was about to become a lifelong fan of this bakery.
As we placed our order, we were joking with the different women behind the counter. I stepped back to get out of the way of the other customers in the bakery and to send a text message of excitement to my other celiac friends when I heard a woman behind the counter barrol, âYou need to leave. You can not be in here in that.â I look up from sending my text message of adoration, and to my surprise an older woman with short hair and glasses is looking at me. I was wearing a pair of shorts and a tankini top that covered up my complete chest and majority of my stomach. I may have had two inches of my stomach showing but, as a rule follower, I apologized and pushed my stroller out and waited outside for my husband to finish our purchase. He told me that two of the other employees behind the counter told the woman that she shouldnât have kicked me out. I was hurt and modified and then after thinking about it, I was furious.
As a high school teacher, I understand the importance of enforcing a dress code and I am sure that a beach bakery gets people in all different types of attire, but what I was wearing was perfectly acceptable and even if it wasnât, no person should talk to another human, let alone a paying customer like this. She had sheer venom in her voice. I do not know if this was a prejudice to a bi-racial couple, ageism, a power trip or just being a bad person, but it needs to be dealt with. There was no sign that I could see about not being permitted inside in swimsuit top and there are other, more humane ways of speaking to people and kicking them out of your establishment. I have read other comments on different reviews about the way an older woman in the bakery area speaks to customers and everyone else has an equally embarrassing story. I do not know if it is the same woman but everyone else behind the counter was kind and seemed to enjoy their job.
I would like to add that I have already spoken to management and they promised that this woman would be dealt with. I really hope they keep that promise.

We bought some baked goods and then had breakfast at the cafeteria style restaurant next-door which is also a part of the bakery. The food is great, the service isnât exactly friendly. My wife and I both had omelettes, nothing special, I wouldnât go out of my way to stop by again.
