Bump and grind has a very urban, RnB vibe, the baristas are friendly, and the coffee is very good. They use a local roastery and their beans are always fresh. I come here with friend's often to study or even just chill. One of my favorite spots in Silver Spring.

Great coffee, disco for days and local beers. Can’t lose. Solid woodworking on the decor as well, scattered bits of ambrosia maple is always a good touch.

Super hip coffee joint/vinyl shop in a somewhat odd place for it. Lots of people working on laptops. Vinyl selection definitely an afterthought. But friendly staff and good coffee.

Second time here as I just moved in the area, the first time I visited was pretty normal. This second time though I didn't feel welcome. Like the people behind the counter didn't want me here...really weird. I may give it one more chance but so far unimpressed. Just a downtown coffee spot. Had high hopes...

Independently-owned coffee shop in Silver Spring. Deserves credit just for that unusual status but also serves good coffee from house-roasted beans and features eclectic LP collection for spinning and sale

Coffee review, one visit only ; had 2 V60 pourovers - 1 Ethiopian and 1 Rawandan. Both very good. They buy their beans through distributors and roast themselves. Usually shops roasting their own beans can't duplicate 3rd Wave shops brewing commercially available roasted beans (Counter Culture, Intelligentsia, etc), but these 2 cups were both very good. If you're looking for a good pourover, I'd give them a try!

2pm and 75% of the menu was 69. I ordered the "space sandwich" which listed fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, olive oil spread & cous cous" I asked if the cous cous was on the sandwich and was told with a snarl "no. Its on the side. You doo knoww what cous cous is? " I was appalled by is patronizing tone and said "yes, but..." without listening to me he answered himself. "its a small grain that.." I interrupted " I know what cous cous is." "That would be weird" he said. I assume he was discussing the idea of cous cous on a sandwich. I responded to which by saying "you never know. People make all kinds of sandwiches." I continued "can you make sure the bread is toasted please" "its a pannini" he snarled again. I said "well then can you make sure the pannini bread is well toasted?" He repeated himself saying "its a pannini" At that point I wanted to slap him. First of all the description didn't say pannini and second not everyone toasts their pannini bread. I also asked if they have an iced chocolate milk since hot chocolate was listed. He said no. I then asked if he could just add ice after he makes the hot chocolate. He said '"I suppose". Because I have seen it happen many times and at this point I didnt trust them I said "can you just make sure its in a larger cup that way you make the normal amount and then add the ice after?" he responded in is ofstanding snarky tone "I think we can figure it out". He charged me for a 16oz hot coco.
I sat down to find that the internet was not working. When inquiring about it the barista stood over my computer confused and she asked if anything was wrong with my computer. The gentalmen next to me finally said after 5 minutes of this "its the bumpandgrind net. Not the free one. " The barista said "it should be the free one" my neighbor proceeded "use the password 'here'" I typed it in and it worked. I looked at the barista and said "well that means that your router is down for the free wifi that you asked me to use" . "whatever" was her response. But thats not the end... When I got my sandwich ten minutes later there were several unlisted ingredients in the food. The olive oil was actually a olive tapenade. There was arugula on the sandwich. There was a bunch of veggies and enough salt to cause a heart attack in the cous cous. To top it off he gave me a 16oz cup full of ice with about 3 ounces of chocolate milk in it even after I made is clear that I didnt want that to happen.
Not everything was bad. The temperature was perfect. Which is unusual for an air conditioned space. As far as I could tell there was no location in which anyone had to tolerate a cold breeze. All the wall tables have a socket for working every 2-3 tables. The music was nice. Not too loud and diverse in style.
But that doesn't make up for apathy, indifferent lassitude, attitude, things not working, slow service and mislabeled products.

I love having this place a short walk from my office. Beautiful bright space, nice staff, tasty blueberry muffins, awesome chai and coffee. A great addition to the neighborhood.

I came to pick up an order between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm that I had placed earlier today and the place closed five minutes early.
