The chocolate pinwheel I ordered was a heavenly combination of flaky and chewy. There was so much chocolate! I left a very pleased customer. The service was excellent, and they waived at my dog through the window. What a dream!

Their bakery is one of my favorites in town because they’ve got a great variety of things like croissants and canelés (though if you mispronounce their name, the staff may correct you). They have great coffee and some lunch options. Their wi-if is pretty good, and they have plenty of spots that are comfortable for getting some work done, as well.

I stopped in here twice while visiting a friend in Des Moines. The first time because I was looking for a local Coffee Shop, and the second because the coffee was so good and the staff was so welcoming. I have a regular spot to get my morning coffee now when I visit Des Moines. Great atmosphere, good food and coffee, and fantastic workers.

My favorite coffee shop in town. Great, open space located right in the heart of the Historic East Village. Tons of natural light, free wi-fi, lots of seating. Perfect atmosphere for meeting friends or getting work done. Some of the best coffee and bakery items in the city.

I really want to like this place more, but it is just odd and out of place in East Village. It seems like it would fit in better in a suburb. The modern building is decorated with small town junk all over. It comes across stale and unauthentic. The coffee is average, the pastries are hit or miss and not open on Sundays, what!?

This is purely bakery and cold sandwiches/salads. Nothing fried or greasy here. Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting was good.
I would summarize this is a young adult/business place. Definitely not a child friendly menu.

No donuts, no dine in (covid). The caramel on my Caramel Pecan Roll had an odd taste. I threw it away after two bites. Wife's blueberry pinwheel was good for the bite she shared with me.

Expensive for mediocre coffee, and baked goods are worse than quick trip. Your paying for location and decorations.

I love the charm of the Scenic Route Bakery. I stopped here everyday for coffee during a conference I attended in Des Moines, IA. I am still dreaming about the pumpkin spice latte, with fresh vanilla, and homemade whipped cream! <3 <3 <3 Truly the best cup of coffee I have ever had!!!!

Good people. The Midwest sandwich is unreal good. The cinnamon rolls are amazing but I think they are a little smaller than they used to be (still great though). Good spot for a clean lunch.
