Sawada Coffee

Stopped by for an afternoon coffee fix and asked about their flavor options and was intrigued by the black sugar one. I got a black sugar iced latte and it was perfect. Black sugar has a bit more molasses to it than brown sugar, and combined really well with their espresso and milk!

Cool grunge and great coffee. They take it seriously here and then locals sit for hours, play cards, work on laptops - the usual. Expect a long line though. Had a quad latte - was spot on!

So I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I personally don't see how the military drink is so special. I've had something similar at another coffee shop and it tastes better. Tried both the cold and hot version and they were just ok. I tried the matcha donut and it was just ok too. Didn't really taste the matcha that much. Also this is not a place to go if you want to study or work, too busy and loud. Unless you thrive in that type of environment.

We saw this place on instagram and wanted to try it out. Did paid street parking. This place is really unique. The vibe is perfect. In addition to coffee there is a bar in the center and also a place to order meats and sandwiches.

Great coffees, awesome ambiance. I love that place. Also great in evenings for drinks with your friends. We were severed quickly. Nice staff too

I tried the Military latte there and it was absolutely delicious (matcha latte with a shot of espresso in it!). Although I found it weird at first, it was surprisingly very good! I also got a matcha doughnut that was very tasty as well. I will definitely try it out again!

The military matcha latte was very unique! (Matcha with a shot of espresso) There are lines for the cafe, and sometime seating is limited because the other seats are for those who eat the bbq.

Highly recommend the military latte. It’s a mix of coffee and matcha latte - although it sounds weird, it actually has a very nice and special flavor. Would recommend to have lunch at Green Street Smoked Meats right next to Sawada coffee, and then come here for a cup of military latte. Walking around the west loop area was also pretty nice!

I got the military latte, matcha latte and matcha donut. Military latte is a matcha latte with a shot of espresso. Honestly, I was skeptical but it was so good! The matcha and espresso go well together. I’d be interested to try it iced the next time I go. The matcha latte was not too sweet, which is how I like my matcha lattes. The matcha donut was good, but I could not taste the matcha very well. Overall, the vibes were great and there was a random bbq place in the back.

Some of the most deliciously creative coffee and matcha drinks around, not to mention the beauty of the Military Latte when you order it inhouse. The Hi Five Mocha has a hint of shishito pepper, which likens it to a Japanese version of a Aztec/Mayan Mocha - it's spicy. Service is efficient and friendly, they can easily answer any questions you have about their specialty coffee drinks, and they offer a selection of dairy milk alternatives. Bonus: They usually have a limited selection of doughnuts from Doughnut Vault. Great place.
