I’m confused why this spot is getting such bad reviews and whether these people are mentioning their issues during their visit. It’s a new location but seems to be hitting it in stride. I ordered a croissant and an oatmilk cappuccino. The croissant had a nice buttery flavor and not overly greasy feel and was very tasty and on par with what I’ve picked up from many of the bakery/coffee shops/Union market shops in the area. The decor was very nice, energetic atmosphere, not too much hustle and bustle but people were moving and getting around. It’s a tight space at the register and a lot of people didn’t know where to stand or where to wait. It felt like there was one too many staff behind the counter as at times they appeared to be doing nothing. Plenty of room to find a seat for four even on a busy Sunday. It’s a chain and they seemed very consistent to the others I’ve visited in Bryant park, Georgetown and Bethesda.

Edit: I’ve been here six times now and service at the counter has been consistently bad/rude. It’s as if they don’t like having customers. Always left feeling bad buying things from this place.
Went there for breakfast which was great. Went back for dessert and they sold me a burnt cookie, which is not nice considering how everything in DC is pricey. I even asked in the pastry section if not the cookies were burnt; I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they didn’t hear me. Well home I discover that it really is entirely over baked and half even TASTES burnt. Maybe don’t sell customers the cookies that got burnt? Also it took VERY long to get to buy that one cookie – very slow service at counter.

There is over-easy, and there is raw. The egg on my Maman’s Breakfast Sandwich was the latter. My boyfriend’s Youky’s Club Sandwich was flavorless. The drip coffees were average. We spent about $45 with tip. The ambiance was lovely, and is the only reason I’m giving three stars. This is the weekend of their soft opening so things may improve!

great pastries, good coffee, cheerful atmosphere and kind staff — what more could you want? the pistachio olive oil cake was a particular standout 😋

Instagram-able cuteness, great coffee and yummy desserts. Northeast location has plenty of places to sit, usually. Georgetown location is always packed. Good prices that aren’t ridiculous.
Largest downside- no wifi. And apparently at the NYC location, it’s a phone-free zone.
Employees looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if they have wifi and then asked why they don’t.
Great place to come pretend you’re in Europe (why are we all still obsessed with Europe in 2023?). Or chat with friends/read a book/contemplate your existence over a honey lavender latte.
But go to a reasonable, American cafe if you actually want to pay for your rent as we live in a country that encourages working instead of protesting.

I work right around the corner from Maman! Every time I have gone it’s been WONDERFUL! The staff is friendly, the food is fresh, and the shop is beautiful! This has already become a regular staple for the girls in our shop! Genuinely don’t understand the negative reviews. Have they been busy, yes, but anyone in service should know how tough it can be during your first weeks of opening! 100% a spot I will continue to go to and rave about!

Came in for brunch with friends. We all really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. However the reason for the lower rating is because of an employee (I believe his name is Rob). As I was waiting to order my drink I watched him berate and antagonize several women employees behind the bar. It was truly an uncomfortable and troubling experience. I understand every new opening has its growing pains, but there’s truly no excuse to treat people that way.

This place is fabulous. Def what the area needed. Delicious food, super nice staff. So authentic. Not to mention the aesthetic. I had the brunch. Then I came back for cookies. Now my croissants are from maman. So glad one of my favourite NY bakeries are growing!

A+ for the decor, everything else was subpar. You can be charging over 10 dollars for coffee and pastry that doesn’t even taste good. And they had terrible (staff member was rude and got my order wrong). The neighborhood does not make up your price range, the quality of the food does!

Absolutely beautiful scenery, lovely staff, and excellent pastries. Can’t emphasize enough the friendliness of the staff.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy with a friend, partner, family member, or anyone - Maman is your destination.
