Au Bon Pain

The Union Station Au Bon Pain is a good stop for bakery items or a coffee. Prices are a little high and it can be a little hectic, but it's nice to have this here for relatively fresh baked goods. Staff are friendly and helpful, and relatively quick. Location is great, obviously!

I was happy to find oatmeal for breakfast... But not happy about their inadequate signage. Does the oatmeal have milk it it? How much is it? Or much are these fresh-looking small and large cups of orange juice? How much are these bottles of water? The lack of signage failed to address any of these questions, and the staff member very partially answered. Ultimately my jaw dropped at checkout when the prices came up because I wasn't given the opportunity to evaluate the items when selecting them.

Ordered a chicken & avocado, and halfway through making it, the lady told me they’re out of avocado. She said it as a statement without offering an alternative or asking if I wanted anything else, basically waiting on me to say “it’s fine” and move on.

Seeing a bag of arugula out, I asked if I could have it in place of the avocado, got the affirmative, then ended up with some mixed lettuce after opening up my sandwich - this sounds trivial and getting romaine over arugula ain’t life or death, but it’d be nice to come out with what I had ordered. Still charged full price for the sandwich. Service was at the swift speed of a turtle even though there were no other customers!

I'm a fan. If you're in a hurry and need a tasty, grab-n-go option, Au Bon Pain is your go-to-place. It's close to the trains and has anything from ready to drink beverages to coffee to pastries to a sandwich stand. The layout is a little crowded, but there are a few seats for you to enjoy your lunch/snack.

Pro-tip: The red licorice is surprisingly AMAZING!

I have been in this place several time and love thier Good egg BF sanwitch. Also good oat meal. Quick to grab and go. They don't have permanent staff to make your latte most of the time. Resonable price! Have multiple pastry selections.

I ordered my meal on line prior to arriving at the station. My order was correct and fresh. Could not give a 5 star as it needs a good cleaning.

Service in the morning is completely disaster!!
I online ordered 3 items, coffee latte and espresso shot. When I arrived, I only got two and one coffee. The woman at the pickup location said the other guy should take care of the bread but apparently he is not. Asked for help and nobody pays attention. Moving reaaaaally slooooow, and nobody apologized for it. And finally I got another LATTE. Haha. Didn't even bother to ask for the right one. Online-ordering is because I wanna skip the line and go directly to the train, not means I wanna this awful service. If you get a job, like it and do it, or just quit.

The service was absolutely terrible. When I got to the counter there were 3 men and a woman standing behind the sandwich counter. I told the women my order and then she told me to tell the men. The three men were joking, laughing, and playing the whole entire time and made it seem if I was being a burden (except one guy who was being very creepy. When making my wrap they were laughing and talking all over my food and had no concern for time what so ever. After making my wrap the one creepy man took my wrap from the man who made it and because he was joking around so much he dropped it on the floor and tried to act like I didn't see it. I told him I didn't want it and he said there was nothing wrong with it. I will never go there again

I've often bought croissants here that were hard and dry, not soft and flavourful. They have the audacity to charge extra for water if you get the large tea AND extra for a 2nd tea bag. (Large tea is usually with 2 tea bags.) So they just charge more for water....

I lovve this place. It's in the perfect space whether you are entering or exiting Union Station. Service to quality of the food and delicious treats this location is my all time favorite in DC!
