Heading up to the mountains looking for a morning meal. Such a small town as I drove around to find an eating house. I couldn't tell if it was an eatery, café or a creamery.
I walked in looking for a place to sit and this was the café/creamery. I asked if there was an eating house and she directed me out the other end and said it was nextdoor. I was outside now and could see a few paths, picnic tables, mini like cabins to my left, in the back and straight ahead a building with two doors.
The atmosphere is rustic and casual. There were many people sitting in this area which looked like an abandoned camping site. At this point I was like do I go in or leave. 😕 I walked in and saw people sitting everywhere. Limited seating for sure. I kept bumping into the customers as the sitting area is small and in close proximity with everyone.
A staff member asked for my name and said it would be about 20 minutes. The wait was more like 40 minutes by now and a table was ready. The adorable waitress Cali brought water and coffee in a custome made mug that I just loved and purchased one on my way out. She also apologized for the long wait and mentioned there were understaffed.
While waiting for my food I noticed a cute three person countertop area where you order food and eat. It is right inside the front door. I ordered the biscuits with sausage gravy and an egg on top because I knew it was going to be amazing. Also ordered was a traditional breakfast. The food was delicious and definitely worth the wait. Mainly because of the many unique savory flavors that I was experiencing. It was like outdoor cooking on a campfire. I'll call it mountain food. The bacon had like an earthy smoked taste and was so hardy. The egg was cooked perfect and sausage gravy was very fresh and plentiful. This mountain hideaway eating house is just spectacular!
If you are in the area, you should really stop in. Say hello to Cali too.
Thank you for a memorable experience.

Excellent place to eat. It gets packed quickly around lunchtime. Employees were very friendly and helpful in tips on the food. We were just passing through but if we come back we will eat here again for sure.

Enjoyed our late lunch here! Be sure to get in before they close the kitchen at 3! Wonderful variety on the menu...children were able to order breakfast items while adults tried huevos rancheros and chile rellenos. Would recommend!

Fantastic restaurant! I honestly think the best part about it is how great our waitress was. She was running around the place like a chicken with its head cut off and yet did a fantastic job serving us, with a surprisingly upbeat and happy attitude. And the food is great, with some of the best Mexican food I've had in a while. I had what was probably my favorite chimichanga anywhere, and our tacos and tostadas were also amazing accompanied with their house-made salsa. The prices are even pretty decent. I'd say the only downsides are how busy it gets and how early it closes. If you arrive when it's busy at all you can bet on having to eat outside, and weather conditions change quickly in Fairplay from my experience! And, we were really disappointed when we showed up here once only to be told they closed at 2. We made it there at 2:01. Not joking. So yeah, they're punctual on their closing time, but that's understandable considering how busy they get. (This was during the burro days, too.) We had such a good experience here and I'd highly recommend this restaurant for some delicious eats! ⭐ x 5

Place is packed because it’s that good! Flavorful fork tender chicken fried steak, fresh brewed tea, yummy deserts! The staff was very attentive and it was nice to hear the local chatter. Nice rustic atmosphere, a must experience in Fairplay!

Fantastic down to earth atmosphere with great food -what more could you ask for! Friendly staff and great service. If you rate a restaurant on how the good the bacon is, this place deserves a 10! Will be back on our next trip!

We were lucky enough to get in before our got busy. It is a small Cafe and limited seating. The staff are all friendly like a small home town business should be. We each had different breakfasts and they were all good. My bacon just the way I asked for! We even needed two to-go boxes. Lots of refills and you know that's important to me!
Small town, small restaurant, but reasons to go back!

Was trapped in th town due to a snow storm. This great little hometown restaurant was recommended to me by the hotel I stayed at. I was happy they did. Very friendly great food, South Park atmosphere, loved it!
