The Template

Without a doubt the coolest coffee shop I've been to, and located right off the Ocean Beach pier. The interior is lined with intriguing decor. There is indoor comfy seating and outdoor seating in the back. The staff is super laid back and fun to chat with. On Thursdays they have open mic night that highlights local talent(mostly musical but one guy even recited his poetry.) My only wish was that they had fraps, but hey the hot coffee options are pretty good.

"Keep OB Weird" stands strong with this place in the absolute best way possible.

I've had the pleasure of coming here a few times to see Follow the Monster Comedy Improve Group and have absolutely loved the atmosphere.

The uniqueness of this place really sets it apart - from the peculiar decor to the specialty drinks offered.

Definitely a spot to check out when you're in the area!

Probably the most beautiful/strange coffee shop I've ever been in. There was only one person working and a long line, so it took a long time to order and receive my coffee, but I didn't care at all - there was so much to see here. It was really gorgeous. As a Minnesotan, it always warms my heart to see portraits of Prince anywhere. I loved the counter area the most with the birdcage and gorgeous wallpaper. My coffee was a rose latte, and any coffee shop that offers rose is great in my book.

i went to every coffee shop in Ocean Beach. This place is by far the best all around in terms of "coffee shop". Definitely not a Starbucks, this place has a lot of heart. Such a unique environment. Staff was dedicated. Shot of espresso was solid (8/10). Pricing was fair. This is a great example of what a cafe, coffee shop should be... dare we say the template!?

Note, this place is rather eclectic and "weird". This is a solid spot for culture but maybe not the place i would take my religious grandmother or corporate professional meeting. But if it was an artist meeting with a newspaper for an interview, this is the place i would go. Know what i mean?

I’ve traveled all over the world and this is hands down my favorite coffee shop I’ve ever been to! Such a light, airy, open vibe perfect for the wandering, creative spirit. So many treasures to discover, new friends to meet and instruments to be played. I want to move to Ocean Beach just to live close by this gem. Thank you, founders of Template, for creating this much needed community hub.

One of the quirkier places I have ever visited. Good ambiance and great coffee that goes along with it. They have games, musical instruments (you can play with permission), and are pet friendly. The ocean beach pier is just a few meters away.

Very friendly barista, cool interior, and very good coffee right by the ocean. I liked the atmosphere of this place, but when I visited, it was 50 degrees out and all doors were wide open. It was freezing inside the cafe and even with my winter jacket on, it wasn’t really enjoyable to spend time there. Too bad! Ok the bright side, they’re dog friendly and the vibe is pretty laid-back.

This is a very unique and cute coffee shop just two blocks off the busy Newport Av. The shop has many comfortable and artistic seating areas. The menu is full of exciting inventions…

The coffee shop ambience is so amazingly weird. Loved the specialty latte options and the cacofee that I tried was amazing !

I love template. Their drinks are great and the staff is so kind. Amazing vibe inside and just a perfect OB coffee shop.
