There’s a reason they’ve been named best coffee in L.A. they have a great selection of drinks along with some food options as well. I really dig the Asian style touches some of these drinks have though I wish they would attempt to add and create new drinks on the menu after a year or so.
There’s also very little seating so most of the time you just pick up and go. I tend to like to sit and relax to enjoy my coffee (especially when it’s this good) so it’s a shame you can’t sit inside yet. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Expertly prepared beverages served with a precise, modern, beautiful aesthetic. Loved the espresso tonic. They sell a nice selection of coffee beans too. A go-to spot in highland park.

Cute little café at the end of the busy side of York Blvd. They're still taking COVID precautions so you'll probably see a long line since only 5 customers are allowed inside at a time.
I got the Kumquat Tonic w/ espresso and my wife got the iced New England latte. There wasn't much seating outside the café so we bought some donuts down the street at Donut Friend and sat at a children's park next to the café.
The tonic was definitely on the acidic side, but when I paired it with the donut, it actually tasted pretty good. The New England latte was on the sweeter side but was good regardless.
I didn't buy any, but the coffee beans that they were selling were pretty varied and were all roasted within the month. I went on Mar. 25 and most of the beans were roasted on Mar. 10, so the beans weren't the freshest, but I would definitely buy beans from here if I needed some.

Good coffee but doesn’t warrant the line is not warranted. I did enjoy the croissant. The outside area is uncomfortable as well. The sun never quite hits in the right way and the chairs aren’t too comfortable. Go to park instead. I prefer a bloc over this spot.

One of the most unique coffee spots in LA. They source coffee from amazing roasters across the country. They are also a great spot for any at home coffee making needs. Great pour over and some unique espresso drinks!

5 stars despite the lack of indoor seating and tables outside amenable to working on laptops, because the hojicha latte and hojicha affogato are just so excellent. the affogato has the most divine balance of the sweet vanilla icecream and the savoury roast from the hojicha tea. i could have three of these, easily. they carry great niche chocolates also, and the cookies are perfectly nutty, crumbly, and buttery. the cookies are also some of the best ive had and i will be back for more.

I used to love this coffee shop and I thought the prices were worth the immaculately made drinks. Then, one time, I had a drink that I have ordered several times before, and it was not made right. I had a few sips and I had a few friends who are also familiar with the drink try it to confirm there was too much syrup. So I took it back and kindly asked if they could remake it. They weren’t thrilled I asked but to make it worse, they would only “remake” if I paid for an entirely new one with a 15% off discount. The problem was not that I disliked the drink and wanted a new one, the problem was they made it wrong to their standards in the first place. I cannot believe for a $7 coffee they would not make a regular customer happy with their order! I hope the $5 they saved on not making me a new coffee was worth losing a customer forever, this review, and me telling my friends.

Great selection of coffee beans and friendly staff. Looking forward for them to change to April brewer

Clean, bright space, welcoming and modern but not stark. Excellent tea selection and tasty matcha. If you want to go big you could drop circa $9 on a ceremonial grade tea!

Kumquat is located in a beautiful hillside neighborhood, with ample free street parking on the road its located on (York Blvd.). The shop exterior didn't quite catch my eye with its beige/off-white coloring, so I had to slow down to find it.
Seating is fairly limited, both inside and outside. The upside for me is that the interior is setup to where I felt like I was at home, or inside someone's cozy living room. There is one unisex restroom near the back, next to one end of the espresso counter.
I was pleasantly surprised by the lavish amount of drink options there are, especially when it comes to hand brews/pourovers. Although the pourover I ordered tasted over-extracted (hollow with a weak body), being able to sit back and spend a brief moment of my morning in a generously comfortable space hit the mark for me.
Kumquat is definitely a coffee shop you want to visit and take that out-of-town friend to — and if I were a resident of the neighborhood, it'd most likely be in my top five. Even with a limited amount of space, the space itself and the customer service expressed places this spot at a solid four stars for me.
I'll be visiting again soon enough, Kumquat!
