J & M's Bar & Grill

Great food, generous portions and friendly service. We were a party of six and although they were busy we got seated within 10 minutes. Everyone is so efficient, ...it's almost unbelievable, keep it up!

It's a bit confusing upon first entering, I stood there for a decent amount of time before I got the "sit anywhere you'd like" acknowledgment. It almost felt like because I was not a local, I dont really belong. Drink order took forever to place along with food. Food was absolutely great though, but only one refill on my coffee the entire time (I usually drink about 4). Service needs work, cooks doing great.

The help were very friendly and the food was great. People were able to watch their football game on a large television screen

We are regulars. We visit once a week or more. My kids sometimes wish I'd pick something else, but "if momma ain't happy..." I have experienced an off day, but that happens. Lunch service is ALWAYS spot on. Anytime they've been a bit off is in the evening and you might find things a tad slow. Food is always delicious and the service is friendly. They also pour great drinks, my go to long island place on this side of town.

My first time here and I didnt know they had 2 ways to enter. Walked in the bar side and we got greeted and sat right away. We sat in an area where the bar and tables are in the same room. To me its no big deal but to others they might not like it. Anyways, i ordered the chicken fried steak with country potatoes and the wife, a meat lovers omelette. She liked her plate and chowed it all down. My plate had 2 versions, big or small and without knowing I ordered the big one and it was a decent size. Eggs and potatoes had to come on a separate plate. I didnt care for the chicken fried steak. The white gravy was ok but the steak was tough and dry, possibly overcooked and it didn't have good flavor. Im probably not gonna eat there anymore, but I might go in for a beer at the bar.

Normally this place is really good. Today not so much. Had to send eggs back. And microwaved bacon. Lol. I think that might be the trade off when you eat in the bar opposed to the café side. The service was great as usual. Prompt service. Only thing was my runny eggs and half cooked bacon.

Good service, good food. Taco salad is great. A little pricey but worth it.

Great food! Great service! Awesome drinks! And WAY less expensive than we expected. We sat in the bar area. Definitely going to be a regular go to from now on.

First-time timers and it won't be the last! Wonderful biscuits, chicken fried steak, eggs, and bacon wrapped shrimp were so delicious and satisfying! Down home food for a down right great experience!

A Bakersfield tradition that's legitimately good instead of just nostalgic. Staff are amazing, and while huge portions don't usually go hand in hand with quality food, you get both here. The bar in the back is pretty great too.
