The server and service was excellent. My food arrived shortly after I ordered and steaming hot. I was contemplating between two dishes and the server recommended she liked one of my choices because it had a little spice but not overly spicy. I'm glad she was correct. I had the schnitzel topped with spicy bell peppers and onion gravy. The schnitzel was fresh! Crisp and hot! The little spice was perfect for just the right "kick." One of my sides was the cucumber salad which seemed a bit runny/watery, but seasoned perfectly with a lot of dill. It was cool and refreshing. The other side dish was the spatzle. It wasn't hot, so it was probably made earlier in the day and simply spooned on to my dinner plate. I wish it was warmed up at least, but I mixed them with the excess gravy which was steaming when my plate arrived. I would definitely recommend this great little gem of a restaurant for German food.

A wonderful surprise. My wife and I did a choose date where she picked Germany. So we came to the German Cafe. Niether of us had ever German food and no idea of how to read the menu. The waitress amazed us both with her patience and understanding. We ended up ordering the bacon cheese pretzel, French onion soup, Jagerschnitzle, and Zigeunerschnitzel. Out of this world delicious. It must be said tho, it is very very hearty food. So don't let your eyes outweigh your tummy as I did.

Excellent European Food
We were in Sierra Vista one day to visit the military fort and wanted something unique for lunch so we stopped by The German Cafe. It's on the end of a strip and is very cozy inside. We were there just after noon and there were maybe 4 other tables with diners so service was excellent. We both had iced teas that were refreshing on that hot day. My wife ordered the Schnitzel Lunch Sandwich with came with fries and cole slaw. I ordered a bowl of the Hungarian Goulash Soup that came with a slice of garlicky grilled bread. The pork on the Schnitzel Sandwich was perfectly cooked - moist and fried just right. The cole slaw is oil vinegar dressed with bacon and onion. We loved it. My Goulash was perfect with nice amounts of pork, potato and other vegetables. An excellent flavor with plenty of paprika, which may have contributed to just a little spice kick. The grilled garlic bread was a nice addition. The other diners clearly had been there before as they all saved room for cake which we found out is one of their most popular items, but we had to pass on it this time. For a change from southwest menus, try The German Cafe to escape to Europe for awhile.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I've had many good meals here over the years while visiting family in Sierra Vista. Most recent visit was in August of 2022, and the food rose above and beyond my already high expectations from previous visits. I ordered the weinerschnitzel with house special gravy, potato salad and saurkraut. The house special gravy was incredible...one of the best I've ever had, and the rest of the dish was fantastic. There was only one server for the whole restaurant but service was very efficient and friendly. I would highly recommend making a stop here for a bite to eat. I only wish I didn't live 2000 miles away so I could visit more often!

This restaurant is the real deal. Everything is prepared fresh and the food is great. A true German experience sans the beer ;)
Food : Highly recommend the potato pancakes, cucumber salad & the hot potato salad. I tired the meatball and gravy.... it was more a meat patty in gravy and tasted great. Out table tried the Schnitzel, Bavarian sausages and sandwiches. Everything tasted yummy. The mustard, horseradish dip and apple sauce are all wonderful add ons.
Service : Very friendly staff. Looked like they were under staffed and things were a bit slow. Our waitress did tell us upfront that food will arrive slow, which was appreciated. Very attentive inspite of the restaurant being full with folks waiting.
Ambience : A quaint lil place with a small private dining area as well. I was thankful for making a reservation. The restaurant gets busy for lunch and dinner, so call ahead or be ready to wait. They don't serve beer or wine yet. Plenty of parking available.
Pricing : Moderate.
Will I return? : Heck yeah! There's so much more on their menu to try.

This place was recommended to me by name by two others that stopped by many years ago. I was hoping to dine in and have some authentic german food with german beer but alas they did not have beer. That ended up being ok though because the food was awesome. My favorite was the pretzel reuben. Highly recommend!

Living my whole life next to Germany, often doing trips around Bavaria, and my husband living there for 3 years, we kinda missed the schnitzel, therefore we decided to go to The German Cafe. Reading all the good reviews beforehand, we were bit disappointed with our food. The Jäger schnitzel was good, the breading wasn't soggy, but I don't understand the bacon and cheese on top of the schnitzel and the cheese under the potato salad. Sauerkraut was good, nothing to mess up there. Goulash was too spicy and watery, the grilled cheese sandwich with pickels was delicious tho. The blueberry short cake was the only item that did look and taste like from German bakery. So yeah, not the "authentic" experience we were looking for.

The best German food I've ever had. We shared a few dishes but they were all equally delicious. Seriously, try this place if you are ever in town!

I could say the boring "they had a great service""friendly amothsphere".
This time, I will not for this cafe deserves more. When welcomed, if you are from germany or studied the language, there is never a shy moment to refresh yourself.
Trying each dish that was served in our course of a meal was tasty.
Also, dessert goes quickly because it is so delicious. I can not wait to try their strawberry torte. I was too late. It's my fault on that one, lol. The service was grand, nothing like taking my mother out to eat, and she was able to speak German and I English. I will be returning every time I get the opportunity thank you for the hospitality :-)

A cozy clean and charming restaurant. Great service and excellent food. The soup was delicious. The schnitzel was very good. The cake was outstanding.
