A greasy spoon and knows it, even in a new building. This is a cafe you love or don't. No in between. And if you love it, you will be back again and again and .... (you get the idea).

Worst experience ever. I try my best to support local and small businesses. By eating at these establishments even when it is not convenient. I leave unusually large tips for the waiters and waitresses because I know time are tough. I would think that a restaurant owner or employee would be happy to see a customer come in the door but instead, My friend and I was yelled at for not wearing a mask. While walking the whole 6ft to our table. Not only did the mask that you gave me cost you money, your employees attitude cost more than the mask ever will. I hope your small business survives this pandemic but I can assure you, if it does that it will not be because I supported the cause

All I have to say is wow! The food is amazing and the price is so cheap compared to most dinners! Our server was very welcoming and a really cool guy to talk to. He always had a smile on his face. You can see them make everything right in front of you. When we pulled in we could hardly find a spot and thought it would take forever to get our food, even though it was packed, but it took less than five minutes to get fresh cooked burgers. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for great eats at a great price!

Went in for an early supper with out of town friends. Plenty of seating. Food was wonderful, hot, fresh, and delicious. Waiter was friendly, helpful and kept cola refills flowing to no end. Then after an hour and a half of just catching up with our buds, waiter wanted to get us drinks to go. Fabulous place. Known as THE oldest restaurant in Huntsville. Yes we all will be back.

I've been going here since I was a kid and since they moved to the new location I have repeatedly tried to defend it despite the lack of double cola in a bottle but after Wednesday I'm just done. The food had an off flavor, and after asking for my burgers double dipped they were ridiculously dry. Chili dog had absolutely no flavor, and the fries were extra greasy even by classic Big Spring standards. Not to mention the only service I received was just "What can I get you?" And not another word said. This new location and "upgrade" has ruined a Huntsville institution and I don't believe I'll be going back.

Stopped by here to try a burger when the Rocket City Burger Battle at Campus 805 proved too crowded for our speed. I believe Big Spring Cafe is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Huntsville. They moved into a new building (the current one) a few years ago.
My dining companions got cheeseburgers, fries, and onion rings. I'm super, super picky about my burgers so I went the safer route and got a chicken tender plate (though a little voice in my head told me I shouldn't, and that the burgers would be better).
Well, I should've listened to it. While there was nothing super bad about the tender meal, it was just..meh.
One GREAT thing about this restaurant is that it's pretty dang cheap...with one notable exception. You can get a cheeseburger, fries or onion rings, and a soda for around $7.50. However, the tender plate was a touch over 10 bucks. It didn't include a drink, but it did include fries, a side salad, and a roll. That sounds like a decent deal but when you look at what you get...I dunno. The side salad was served in a small bowl and consisted of nothing but super finely shredded lettuce and chunked tomatoes. It mostly tasted watery. And the "roll" was legitimately just a hamburger bun. The fry portion was the same my other dining companions got. And I got maybe 4 small chicken tenders. It's not a terrible deal, per se, but compared to the rest of the menu, it seemed a little high.
Anyway. Like I said, the salad and roll were disappointing. The fries and tenders were both decent but I'm pretty dang sure they were frozen and then fried. Low on flavor, low on crispiness. Just really forgettable.
On the bright side: the restaurant was really clean (100 health rating, too) and the service was friendly and nice. Also, we really enjoyed the onion rings, and the burgers were pretty dang solid. Yes, they're pretty small -- I'd recommend getting a double if you're hungry -- but they were juicy, cooked nicely, and the buns were warm and toasty. And, I feel, priced very reasonably.
Bottom line: come for the hamburgers and onion rings if you're down for that. Absolutely skip the chicken tender plate; it's not worth it for what you get. I have other places I prefer for hamburgers, but I'd consider returning if I was in the neighborhood. It's definitely worth a shot to experience a slice of Huntsville history!
