LOVE this establishment in the heart of our favorite escape! The convenience of not having to drive to Hayward every day for basic groceries paired with the nostalgic beauty displayed in the gorgeous antiques and local artisan works makes this place the perfect little stop for stone lake!
This is a fun place to stop. Half of their place is antiques that are for sale. There are some local artist items mixed in. The other half is a small grocery store that offers a great selection of tasty items: cheese, meat, frozen pizza, liquor. We also enjoy looking at all the statues outside. Bigfoot gave us a start because he was looking in the window. We love the elk and bear and the rooster is cool as well.
Imagine the ideal storybook general store, smack dab in the middle of a historic small Wisconsin town, but totally up to date, and you'll be close to describing this wonderful place. From practical items to cute tchochkies, and just about everything in between. Came in for a cold drink and had lots of shopping fun along the way!
Unfortunately, I couldn't give the 5 stars that the Mercantile deserves. We are so happy the store re-opened under new ownership. Fresh meats from Louis is a nice option.( hoping to see original meat sticks, not teriyaki soon) The owner and staff is friendly, bakery items delicious, unique gift shop. Love the antiques! Unfortunately, the owner and many customers do not follow the " masks are required" signs on the front door".
We feel it is the owner's responsibility to keep its customers safe and enforce the executive order. We have been reluctantly shopping at the dollar store, wanting to give business to a non chain business instead, where masks are enforced. As the number of positive cases continues to rise, especially after cranberry festival. Even though there were very few food tents, we saw the owner talking with vendors ( no masks) while handling food. You won't have customers if they're sick. We hope masks will be enforced, so we can ALL feel safer. Thank
Thank you for your response. If you can't mandate or ask customers to wear a mask, I'm assuming you have an underlying condition as well, since you weren't wearing one either. I realize the Cranberry Festival was technically canceled. All summer I've never noticed food tents outside your building before. That's what I was referring to regarding vendors handling food and not wearing masks. I hope all businesses in Stone Lake can remain open safely. Best of luck.
Great store in Stone Lake. Great Breads! Reasonable prices for a small town store including Louis meats, beer and wine, etc. Have a walk in beer cooler. Part of the store has items from local crafts people.
First time in since it transitioned from the grocery store. Had a really neat selection of gift, household items and antiques! Also a small selection of local foods, wines and produce!
Took home a loaf of the frozen blueberry fritter bread and it has been amazing for toast/French toast!
