First of all, the coffee is ALWAYS good! The workers are cheery, and try to remember my drink. I sometimes wish the line didn't get so busy but that's what happens when you are good 😊

Just Because

I hear often that Higher Grounds is a good place to get coffee and a quick lunch. I often see a line of traffic at the pickup window, so it seems reasonable that this could be a good place to go.

Based on the recommendations of a few acquaintances I've visited this place several times over the past couple years. I have to say, that this place is NOT one I would ever recommend to someone looking for coffee or for that matter a place to get lunch.

The only reason I'm giving this two stars is that the coffee is decent. Not great, but decent enough that if you're in a hurry and not enough time to go somewhere with really good coffee it would take care of a quick caffeine fix. Also, their 'lunch' which is pretty basic and nothing exceptional would get you through until your next meal.

However, the one thing that I can't abide is a business that treats their customers like they aren't worth the dirt they (the workers) walk on. On nearly every instance I've visited this place to get lunch I've been overlooked and had others served who came in after I did.

On my most resent visit, I let a women go ahead me (as I was still considering what I wanted), who ordered coffee and then decided to get a sandwich too. She was instructed to fill out a slip for her sandwich and then they rang up her order. I stepped up and ordered a sandwich and was promptly told to move out of the way and fill out a slip. (OK..... but you didn't say that to the lady in front of me you let her fill out her slip without moving.)

There wasn't anyone else in line, so I'm not sure why all of sudden I was being asked to do something the women in front of me wasn't asked to do. She still had to fill out a slip for her sandwich but she wasn't told to get out line and come back.

As I was filling out my slip several other customers did come in. But instead of taking my order, as I had finished filling it out, the young girl working the register ignored me and took an order from a couple who did not know what they wanted and suddenly decided on a sandwich. They were given a slip and this girl waited for them to fill it out. (Seriously??? Why weren't' they instructed to get out line and fill out a slip...)

I had enough of being treated like I wasn't there and walked out.

Now, I feel like I'm being nit picky about this. But this is not the first time I've been treated this way at this particular coffee place. And I've watched these 'girls' do the same thing to other customers. Why one customer is allowed to fill out sandwich slips and hem and haw about their orders while others are waiting in line is ok, and other customers are told to move out of the way until they fill out slips and figure things out is beyond me.

There are plenty of other really good (5 star) coffee places in Port Angeles, that until this place actually treats all their customers the same way, they just aren't worth the effort to walk through their door.

My favorite coffee place in town! This girls are always so friendly and the drinks are always on point! My boyfriend and I love the coffee and spritzers and the shakes and smoothies always bring a huge smile to our little one’s face 🥰

Just made a sourdough and pastrami sandwich wit mayo, Dijon mustard, green peppers and oil and vinegar, truly fire!! Coffee rarely disappoints and good customer service.

Having only lived in the PNW for several months, this place quickly became my favorite coffee shop of all time. I've tried multiple coffee stands, and I'll tell you, Dutch Bros and Starbucks got nothing on this place - Higher Grounds has THE best coffee and spritzers. Their food is good too. I've tried their London Fog tea and their Boston Crème Pie latte; it legitimately tastes like a Boston crème pie. Other places try to make their coffee taste like a pie, cake, peppermint mocha, etc, but they don't quite deliver. Higher Grounds does. If I ever take a trip to visit the PNW, I'll go out of my way to stop here again. Worth the wait and the stop!

Get a detailed receipt. I’ve noticed here and at the location by Walmart that I have been charged for syrup or heavy whipping cream when I don’t get either. It’s happened more than once at both places.

So I had been going to this place for YEARS! They were a great coffee shop back in my high school years up until this year. If an order was incorrectly made in high school, the baristas were typically cool about fixing our drinks. Well the last few visits (months ago), the drinks were prepared incorrectly and when we asked them to fix it, this one barista rolled her eyes and had an attitude about it. The coffee is okay but they definitely do not serve service with a smile. Definitely will not be coming back anytime soon.
