First time visit but long time fan! Coming from cville it was a welcomed site to see Grit Coffee! Each grit has their own feel and flavor. Still best breakfast in cville downtown! This grit however was simple but charming and open. Barista was super kind, warm, and efficient! Asked a few questions on what I should get and recommendations and she did not disappoint. Excited with the move to visit this location more!

I was traveling through Richmond a while back, and had such a great experience here! It was great to find a third wave coffee spot out this far from the city.

Beans are good! I will say my cortado seemed to be poured by a relatively new barista/trainee, so I don’t think that was exactly representative of the overall quality you should expect. The space is also quite loud and the knock of the portafilter booms throughout, so I wouldn’t recommend it for your next zoom call… BUT then…

Nic!

Y’ALL. She came in after I got my drink, and was the most welcoming and joyful presence! She knew the regulars by name, asked about their lives, and they asked about hers. It was a beautiful thing to witness.

We chatted a while during a quiet period and she was so kind, encouraging, and generous! Way above and beyond the call of duty. Toward the end of the day, she came to me and asked, “do you like pumpkin?” I said yes and she disappeared, came back with an amazing pumpkin muffin, paid for by her, with a sweet note! What?! Such a pure, kind soul.

Their hiring ads on Instagram say, “Love coffee and people?” And it’s clear they mean it.

First visit here after visiting Grit Coffee in Charlottesville 2 weeks ago for the first time. They didn’t disappoint! My first real cup of coffee in Richmond in 2 years. I hope everyone that enjoys a true cup of coffee supports these guys. I truly relished every sip until it was gone.

My latte tasted great, but the person at the counter wasn’t very welcoming. Maybe it was a bad day for them too or they felt they were missing out on the holiday, but I likely will go elsewhere next time.

A great little coffee shop in the West End. Good coffee and cute decor. Also have nice pastries. Dinging one star because prices are steep when compared with similar coffee shops.

Just because the barista can afford the 2nd edition apple airpods doesn’t make it okay to talk on the phone while a prospective customer is at the counter nor through out the whole interaction. That initially didn’t put a good taste in my month. After looking over the menus, I was going to order the “newly added” fall drink, but having it described as ‘very popular,’ I went with the classic americano. As I was struggling to pay for the drink with my apply pay, due to the mask thing, she hovered in front making sure I can afford an americano. Once the transaction when through, she rushed away to talk on the phone while making my drink. The Decor at Grit Coffee is nice and simple, but everything felt like a worse version of the pretentiousness at Lamplighter, with coffee that isn’t as good.

Meh experience here. Ordered a takeaway cappuccino and saw the barista put a lid on, though I normally ask them not to. Now I know why as it had virtually no froth and seemingly she was covering her mistake. Essentially I paid $5 for a coffee with milk. Won't return here if this is the standard.

Nice barista, great lavender latte. It was so good that I ordered a second one to go. I didn't know there was a such thing as a decaf or half-caf latte until today.

Cappuccino is the right size, they have Oatly, espresso over ice is tasty. Clean space.

This Charlottesville based chain does it right! Good coffee, small place, nice patio.
