Canvas Coffee

Stopped by for an after lunch cup of coffee and was pleasantly surprised. I had a chemex of Ethiopian and it was the best cup I've had in a while. The barista nailed the description of the flavor notes and was clearly passionate about coffee. Pricing was comparable, if not cheaper than starbux and the coffee was far superior!

Canvas has friendly, knowledgeable staff, and a wonderful atmosphere! It's a perfect meeting place for coffee and conversations, yet quiet enough for working on your laptop. I highly recommend Canvas.

Fantastic little coffee shop, just what I was looking for in town. Great study vibe/atmosphere, good coffee (a tad pricey, but understandable). Very personable staff, surprised at how young the founder is! Looking forward to seeing Canvas become a landmark establishment in Newport News. Just wish they were open past 7pm!

My only qualm (keeping my rating at 4 stars) is more of an oddity than anything; I guess their in-house WiFi forces a Safe Search filter on all internet searches, which is totally reasonable, but had the unintended side effect of blocking/restricting half of my Youtube Music playlists as I streamed my music (I guess for explicit content? Seems ridiculous, and has never happened to me before). Not a major problem, but was definitely puzzling

This is such a great spot to study or spend time with a friend! The coffee is fantastic and the service is always so kind and friendly. I definitely recommend stopping by (and trying their iced americano)!

The seasonal Strawberry basil latte was 🔥. Great little spot for coffee with awesome artwork.

Found this place New Year’s Day ! Loved it so much had to come two times in one day! The coffee is amazing!! The staff are so friendly! I am about to head back now and take some friends with me ! So happy I found it!

Great coffee especially the cortado-- double espresso, double cream (I think). Prices well below starshmucks. Comfortable ambience. Friendly staff. Locally-,owned. They do need better signage. Can be difficult to locate .

Best coffee in town and a witty Wi-Fi password.
Fantastic pour-overs, cappuccinos, and cortados; can't wait to try the rest of the menu. It's obvious everything they offer was attentively and thoughtfully chosen by the owners.

What an wonderful coffee house. So many things about this place are right: the minimalist, elegant décor; the pensive, uplifting music; the pared-down, yet focused menu (my coffee was delicious—the roast, the brewing method, even the “plating”); the kind, professional baristas. I could go on but risk coming off as maudlin. William Styron Square (and Newport News) was in need of such a place: an artful oasis for thoughtful, creative, and introspective people. To the entrepreneurial imagination who dreamed this up: my sincere admiration for your keen attention to detail. It shows! 😊☕️

This is exactly what the Peninsula has been desperately needing. A beautifully decorated, clean space with great coffee and an incredibly welcoming and friendly staff. I cannot wait to see how this brand blossoms and transforms the community.
