I've been going here for over 12 years and have always enjoyed it. The coffee is pretty good and the space is alright but the feeling of sitting at Bollo's for a day is incomparable. For me, it is a great place to sit and think and work and get caffeinated.

My kids and I have been going to Bollo's since it opened in 1994. They know our preference for a corner or edge oat fudge bar, and that we like vegan and gluten-free food. They take checks, not credit cards, and the bread is heavenly. It can get crowded with hipsters, but that's fine with me. If you want a corporate experience, Starbucks is right down the street at Kent Square.

I ordered a croissant and a Latte. Croissant was decent (supermarket quality) as was the coffee. The staff was very short and unfriendly, as if I were bothering them. The place was very quiet and uninviting. I suppose its okay if you just want to read in a quiet place to read nearby.

New to town and looking for a regular coffee joint to spend time in. Good coffee, nice atmosphere, (seemingly) disinterested staff...enjoyed my few times there but more for the other clientele than the shop itself. This rating may get higher as I go back more often.
::Edit:: After being there several times I would say the service is better than my first impression. When I need to bunker down for a couple of hours to read and write this is the place that comes to mind.

Still the best overall coffee stop in town. Well-prepared coffee and options, great baked sweets, regular gluten-free days, and decent breads and snacks. I highly recommend the cinnamon rolls (Friday and Sunday): they're huge, rich, and generously-iced. The only downsides: as with any small bakery or coffee shop, you get slightly different goods on any given day; the WiFi is sometimes flaky when crowded; and sometimes you get a new batista or baker and the goods aren't up to snuff. Such is life!

Great muffins and pastries of all kinds. It always smells so good in here. The staff are great friendly folk. They will make you feel comfortable in this cozy little bakery.

The atmosphere is chill. Other than that, I don't really dig the place. The coffee is nothing special, they only take cash, and the tables are all squished together, making it difficult to grab a seat without climbing over other customers. The big con is how dry most of the baked goods are--as if they had been sitting out for a day or two. I doubt I would go again if it wasn't such a tradition in my lab.

I ordered a 9 x 13 sheet cake; marble cake with vanilla butter cream icing. It was for my 9 yr old Granddaughter and my 90 yr old Mother. Asked for their names and ages to be printed and then some pretty violet and purple flowers with yellow centers. Told them to make it very Spring and Easter looking with the colors. I paid for it on the phone when ordered. When I picked it up, I was very disappointed in the decoration. Aside from the names and ages, there was two or three very small dark purple flowers with green centers. I didn't have much time before the BD dinner, so I took it hoping it would at least taste good. But I felt somewhat ripped off because I could have made and decorated a cake to look as good as this one did. After dinner, I brought out the cake and was more disappointed. The crumbs fell like saw dust when it was cut. Instead of looking like yellow cake with chocolate swirls running through it, it was just a light tan color throughout with a little streak of yellow cake every now and then. It was so dry, it just crumbled on the plates. Everyone tried to pretend to eat it, but it was so bad no one ate more than one or two bites. It was the worst cake I have eaten in over 60 years; and I paid $50.00 for it. I was very sad and disappointed that it was such a negative ending to what should have been a happy celebration. The next day I called and asked for the manager. I was told she wasn't there, but I was speaking to the kitchen manager and she could help me. I told her of my very negative experience and that I had paid $50.00 for a cake that no one could eat, and she said she was sorry. And that was it. I don't know what I was expecting, but that certainly wasn't it. I will not be returning to Bollo's Cafe & Bakery - ever. I only gave it one star because it wouldn't let me post my comments with out at least one.

I go to Bollo's almost everyday for a coffee (espresso and otherwise) and often one of their house baked goods- scones, croissants, focaccia and more. They have homemade cinnamon rolls sized to feed the incredible hulk. I am not sure what I would do without the place- it's a great bakery, local cafe and much needed staple of the Blacksburg community. It's a cozy place to sit and read for a while.

Simply the best. Get the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin for it is a coffee treat that is unmatched. A cozy local coffee shop full of regulars. Love the place.
