This is one of our favorite places to eat in Brownwood. The food is great. I haven't had anything her that wasn't good. The burgers are some of the best in town. The Railroad Club is one of my favorites. Soups are great.
Whenever there are visitors from out of town, I always recommend them trying the train. It is a neat atmosphere because it is inside an actual train car, converted into a restaurant.
The only downside is if you are going here with a group, there's not much seating. Most of seating is booths. It is a favored spot for lunch so be prepared to wait a couple minutes for a table during lunchtime, but they are pretty quick at getting the next customer seated.
The people are friendly and very helpful.

We loved the unique setting and 50’s diner food! Every staff member opened the door for us and greeted us warmly. We absolutely loved this place, and will stop here again next time we are in town!

An awesome place for lunch. Not an inexpensive one though. The service is as awesome as the food.

Feedback
- Good - atmosphere pleasent and friendly. Food was simple and very good. We had the Philly cheese sandwich and the chilli cheese sandwitch. With fried pickles as an appetizer. All spot on! Staff were fun
- Difficult - nothing at all
- Different - just keep up the friendly customer first standards and great home cooked meals.

My family and I drove from San Antonio and 2 other family members drove from Dallas to check out the place. Food was ok, the kids working there were great. Seating was uncomfortable but thats expected . There were a few dead flies and the windows to the place were filthy. Wouldnt go back. Wasn't really worth the drive.

My friend and I passed through Brownwood on Friday and basically just picked this place at random because of the name. It was the absolute best pick for a lunch place that I can remember in quite a time. Basic menu of burgers, Patty melts and some salads but everything was well prepared and very tasty, and the staff were amazingly cheerful and friendly full of information about this old railroad car that the cafe is in.
The owner sat with us for a while and told us more, also very friendly. She said she was the mother of five teenage boys, but she looked amazingly rested and unstressed out.
I heartily recommend this place to anybody who needs lunch in Brownwood. I will go out of my way to eat there again on the next occasion that I'm anywhere in the neighborhood.

We had never been to a railroad car diner, so decided to make the three hour drive to the Runaway Train Cafe in Brownwood, TX. The solitary structure on this side of the road, the silver train car is very much like what we had imagined. Inside, the seats are newly upholstered, aluminum tabletop were all clean. Service was fantastic and the food was awesome. Seriously, everything we ordered was very good. The owner/manager heard we drove three hours just to eat here, so she came over and introduced herself. She checked on us several times to make sure we had what we needed. Can't recommend this experience enough!

Food is good and service is usually great. The menu doesn't have alot of options but what is on there is great. Definitely recommend for a burger.

Good atmosphere, staff was all very friendly and attentive. Food was good w good sized portions. Pricing is comparative to other sit downs, around $100 for 6 meals, drinks and 2 appetizers

Chili cheese tots were amazing. It was enough for a meal by itself. The owners so and the other employees always make you feel welcome!!!
