Cosy deli place that we like to visit every time we are around. We love their soups (tomato, tomato dill, tomato basil,..) and desserts (especially eclairs, mini NY cheesecake, cream cheese chocolate cupcake). I would also recommend scalloped potatoes of any kind, cowboy hummus or deviled eggs that are staples on our table. They are a little on the pricier side.
I used to love this place. But now, the service is terrible. If you order by phone you still have to wait in line in the heat. I waited 20 minutes because they only allow 5 people inside at one time. Once inside I went to the counter to get my now cold grilled sandwich. I was told i had to wait in line behind the 4 people who had not even ordered yet. Good policy Food Food. All other intelligent places allow called in orders to pay and leave. This is Insane!! Actually I had ordered the Insanewhich. Now I know where they got the name. They don’t realize allowing call in orders to come in and pick up and pay moves the line and satisfies their customers. Three people behind me in line were very vocal about their frustration and left. I left without getting my sandwich after waiting another 10 minutes and not moving up in the line. Smart move Food Food!!! Enjoy my sandwich and gazpacho. You are losing a lot of regular customers.
Food is good, I like to order lunch occasionally. That said, I really hope they give more thought to efficiency during busy times. Took me 20 minutes to get my call-in order because they make everyone wait in the same line, behind folks who have not ordered. Separate ordering and payment lines??
Update April 2019: Still awesome. Green beans with almonds and tamales today, both chicken and pork. Both amazing. Good coffee too.
Love this place. I've now had three different casseroles here, the King Ranch, Tamale, and Tuna. all are spot on. Perfect for lunch with a friend, small business meet up etc....
The food food was good, but the staff seemed very short tempered. Call me crazy but I feel that when you're buying a $12 sandwich the smile that comes with it is a key element of what you're expecting.
Delicious food everything! Only thing is service is mixed. Sometimes friendly and spot on, other times mixed communication, don't follow through and too many ppl ringing up one customer. The line gets backed up and sometimes they pick whomever is tall enough to be seen at deli counter. Other times it's pleasant. Also way overpriced, but the 1/2 sandwich plus soup deal is awesome!!
The shop is very tiny. Keep that in mind if you want to eat there. It also gets pretty crowded during typical meal times but the line moves pretty fast. You seem to be rushed a little to choose food at the front but you can’t really see what is being offered on display until you get to the front. The pricing is a little high for small portions. The food overall is good and of good quality.
The food is ok, however the person who made my sandwich didn't wear gloves and her black nail polish was on bread. When I ordered seems to be that I should know everything, which I understand they are busy but a little more friendliness doesn't take too much of time... I ain't sure I'd be back especially I don't know if the person who is going to make my sandwich has gloves on or not... I wanted to support local business, yet I know for sure Randals will always follow the food safety procedures
We love this place. It is one of our goto spots living in TarryTown. The tuna melt is delicious. The grilled cheese and tomato soup is a fast follower. Always grab desert cookies
I just had the carnivore sandwich and it was amazing. That being said, most all of the staff always seems irritated with something! There was a girl asking who was next and she seemed a bit upset when we went down the line and couldn't exactly figure out who was next. Then, a woman in front of me asked for a cup of ice and the guy ringing her up avoided her eyes, grimaced, sighed heavily, and reluctantly said, "sure." I also witnessed another guy request something special and a different staff member was very friendly and took care of the request... so I guess it depends on who you get to wait on you. So if you go, expect good food and rude service, I guess.
