Wound up at this coffee shop on our first morning in Custer, and returned for each of our remaining 3 days in town. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, and it was immaculately clean and we'll maintained. New owner (January 2020) Sheila, obviously takes great pride in her shop, and can be seen moving about constantly, taking care of everything needed in between working whatever her role is for that day. We had bagels, sandwiches, coffee, and hot chocolate, each day, and were happy with breakfast every time. Highly recommend starting your day out at Calamity Jane's Coffee Shop when in Custer SD.

This became our go to place for coffee inspired drinks. They make a perfect breve mocha and the scones are delicious!

Awful service! The owners are grumpy and don't care about their customers!
In response to your reply: On the first day my group and I stayed for two hours and the second day 1.5 hours, not 3 like you say. The first day I bought a $5 coffee and a $9 bagel and did not buy anything the second day, but did have a reusable water bottle in my backpack. The first day we did take up 3 tables, but business was slow and nobody was waiting to be seated, because there were plenty of seats available. The second day we only took up one table that seated six so even if we had left, the group of 20 would not have fit at that one table. In addition to that day, there were several other tables of people who were not asked to leave although they had been there when we walked in. We had never been explicitly asked to leave on either of those days, so we were not aware it was this big of a problem. We would have gladly moved if the owners had come and talked to us by explaining the situation instead of passive aggressively telling us how hard it is to own a small business. We had also been accused of bringing our own coffee and tea in on the second day which is untrue. When we tried to defend ourselves, the owner tried to pass off excuses to make up for their lack of customer service and continued to reiterate the struggles of owning a small business in a booming tourist town. Lastly, my personal life has no bearing on this issue so I'm not sure why you brought it up as you are a business, not a friend. You own a business, so please act like it. Your lack of professionalism is honestly amazing.

AVOID - absolutely terrible customer service. So disappointed in this place - yes, excellent coffee, but waited for over 30 minutes for 2 toasted bagels with cream cheese and they STILL got our order completely wrong. Had two young children with us that were frustrated and tired of waiting, so we weren’t about to wait for another 30 minutes for them to get our order right. We own a house just outside of Custer and definitely will NOT return to Calamity Jane’s, which is unfortunate, as we like to support local businesses. But when customer service is this terrible, it’s not worth it.

Awesome coffee shop... my cousins daughter collects coffee holders and since my husband and I always look for different coffee shops I asked the barista if she had one with their name on it - they didn’t but she said give me a few minutes and I’ll have one for you - I wish I had taken a picture...Natasha quickly hand drew Calamity Jane on a holder for us, now that is great service! Thanks again Natasha - you are awesome and so was the coffee 🥰

The owner told us "I'm looking forward to reading your bad review" so I'm going to oblige to her wishes.
My friends and I went to this coffee shop two days in a row. The first day, my flavored coffee drink (I don't remember what it was called) had chunky powder at the bottom so I didn't order a drink when we returned the second day. I also watched a staff member lick sauce off of his hand, then continue to make sandwiches in the back of the cafe.
Upon the second day, out of six friends, only two of us didn't order anything. We didn't order because we didn't like what we had gotten the day before and our other friends were ordering things. None of us thought that would be a problem. The owner then came over and asked us if we were going to leave yet. We had been there for 30 minutes at that time and they were still drinking their coffees. We then got berated multiple times to leave because two of us hadn't bought anything and we were taking up space. Meanwhile, two groups of elderly people were there longer than we were and were not asked to leave. We were not being disruptive in any manner. She also tried to accuse us of bringing in our own teas/coffees the day before, which was completely false. On top of all this, I got personally targeted by the owner who was repeatedly asking if I understood how small business's work. I responded with "yes I understand thank you" but she was not satisfied with that and proceeded to call me "immature" and that I "needed to grow up". Very unprofessional.
In conclusion, I do understand that small business's survive off of our purchases to make a living. I also understand the power of customer service. Considering Custer is a small town and I am a local, word of mouth can be used for their benefit... or their downfall. I believe that customers must be treated with out most respect. We would have been a customer a third day but the owners belittling treatment towards us left a bad taste in our mouths. With all that said, I hope that the Calamity Jane Coffee shop can learn from their mistakes and grow professionally.

Food was great! I was drawn in by the name of the place. Was nice place, food was good, and the coffee was great!

This place is good as a coffee shop but not a place for food

We had a nice breakfast here. Coffee and tea, eggs and sausage... it was good. You can buy local wine and honey, too.

This coffee shop advertises curbside pickup on their website, so during our busy day I decided to order a frappe for curbside pickup in between attractions. I placed my order and headed to pick it up. I parked and called the number they said to call once you arrived. When I called they said they'll "try and find my car" even though I told them exactly where I parked, so that was odd. I waited for over 20 minutes AFTER the time they said it'd be ready. Eventually my husband went in, he could see my frappe sitting behind the counter, but it took another 10 minutes for an employee to help and give him the (now very watery) frappe. Don't offer curbside if you can't properly manage it. Would not go again or recommend.
