The break options here are very light and refreshing. You get a variety of caffeine free drinks as well. I was surprised to find Hojicha green tea. It's a cozy cafe situated in the same building as Cool Beans.
Seriously delish "ttlt" (tofu blt). (~$8.80). Shares a space with Cool Beans which is upstairs. Awesome menu with tons of vegetarian options. Nice place to relax and chat with some friends. Board games available, cozy chairs, good vibes!
College Grounds quietly serves the best breakfast in downtown Columbia. While people stand in line for over priced avocado toast at Soda City, you'll find me drinking a iced thai coffee and eating the best grits in Columbia. Enjoy great views of campus while enjoying the chill vibes and excellent service.
I love College Grounds. I stop by every morning before work for my pick-me-up, and they never disappoint! Everyone there is super friendly and make every day brighter. You haven't lived till you've tried a pumpkin muffin or the T-Rex bowl there! Absolutely delicious!
The grits are local, creamy, and thick, and the bacon is crispy, just the way most southerners like it. The "homemade waffle" is heated up in a toaster or microwave.
Customer service is a hit-or-miss. It's been quite a few times that I've been here that a couple of the employees have grimacing look on their face, far different than their sister cafe upstairs. Even something as simple as saying, "you're welcome" is very difficult for one employee, in particular, to say.
I will gladly give another star if the service improves.
My boyfriend and I have been here several times and always enjoyed it. But recently we have attempted to come on sunday mornings twice and the door was locked and no one to be found after their time of opening at 9 am. Open sign was on but lights off behind counters and nothing set up
My BLT-A consisted of 2 pieces of grocery store bread, a couple of sad pieces of bacon, and a thin slice of tomato and avocado and a leaf of lettuce. My side of potato salad was a tiny little bowl of about 3 bites. For that and a glass of tea I paid $9. Way too much money for too little lackluster food.
