Cute little place, but oddly laid out. They provide outdoor patio seating that sits below street level resulting in a quiet, relaxing ambience. Everyone enjoyed their food. Simple menu of sandwiches, some made with bagels and soup. I think we would all be happy to eat there again.
Great little coffee shop!
Really enjoyed coffee on the patio here. Was a little disappointed that my sandwich was made with the heel. It was very hard and I had to eat it open face instead.
While there can be long waits, that’s only because they’re popular and you’re getting fresh, good food and really good coffee and tea! I get chai lattes at coffee shops 99% of the time and this place is in my top 3. They also have some beers that you don’t usually find in Staunton, and I have friends who come here for lunch for that sole reason.
Last week ordered a bagel and coffee, then came to pick it up but added a few more items for my kids. I left with what I thought was my order. They had missed the bagel. No problem, so I called and they said come back any day for the bagel. I was too far when I realized. Today went to order more coffee and redeem a bagel that was paid for and forgotten. I was treated like I was lieing and trying to get a free bagel. SMH. I left because of the interrogation and the disbelief. You WAISTED my mornings twice. I won't be back! 🤯 P.s. and the owner was just standing there. You guys get a lot of people who try to scam for free bagels I guess.
got coffee while passing through - great service and great coffee
Amazing breakfast sandwich! Warm, fresh and filling ❤️
Had music playing. Probably too much for this small venue. Nice to sit outside on the street.
We come here nearly every weekend because it’s the best coffee shop/light breakfast or lunch spot in all of Staunton. The coffee is delicious, the food (baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch sandwiches) are all so good too. On Sunday afternoons there’s live acoustic music as well, and never too loud. The staff are always friendly and polite. My only tip is get in early or call ahead if you don’t want to wait awhile for food. It’s worth the wait and we never mind, but since it’s a small staff in a popular place, it can take awhile during peak hours.
I purchased the medium roast drip coffee, which was weak, had the aroma of asparagus, and tasted faintly of dishwater. The sweetheart latte was pretty good.
Really great little place. We had breakfast. The banana bread and latte that I had were fantastic!

Only have had a few brief visits here while I was waiting for my other appointments downtown. Every single time, they have the best service and the most delicious coffee and muffins 😋
I come to the By & By on Sunday afternoons to enjoy jazz and a nice sandwich.
Great local establishment. Always cozy and welcoming. The sandwiches are tasty, and every beer is a banger. Lol, they also have coffee.
I had a great seasonal chai and breakfast sandwich! Really friendly staff and great atmosphere.
Great coffee and beer options. Bagels and various pastries and sandwiches offered at usual times of day. Enjoy outdoor "beer garden." Close to Shakespeare theater and Mary Baldwin.
Nice decor, good coffee. Not bad a for a quick breakfast
Such an awesome spot for coffee and treats. Sandwiches were so yummy and there was such an inviting atmosphere. Love IT
Stopped in for some iced coffees on Saturday. Tasty beverages and nice staff but very slow despite not being busy and having at least three folks working behind the counter.
