We decided to stop in here for a quick drink while we were waiting for an event close by. It was such a unique atmosphere. We just ordered a couple of iced teas. They brewed the tea fresh. It was very good. Also had several cookies to choose from. Anyone can come in and dine or get a coffee.. but they also offer memberships for a chess club. If you aren’t a member, there is a sign saying you can pay $5 to rent game pieces for playing chess or use the many various games that are on the shelf. Several people there working on laptops as well as a good group of people just sitting around playing chess. The tea and cookies were good. The vibe was very cool.
Memphis chess club is a place with a unique idea. This place is a combination of restaurant and chess club which has regular tournaments for chess players. While you wait for your family member playing downstairs, you can wait at restaurant working, playing (Yes! lot of board games and tables have chess boards embedded) and having great food. Staff are super friendly.

Best place to relax and enjoy their coffees or amazing pizza - I always get the Carlsen. I do not play chess but I love the atmosphere. If you’re lucky a customer may play the piano which is always a treat! People do play chess there and the lower level has a MASSIVE room just for chess competitions. There are also other board games available for fun. We played Connect Four.
Cool spot, great atmosphere. The music selection not only adds to the atmosphere but the sound system is great as well. The staff were very good. They made us feel welcomed and were great with answering our questions. There is a full bar so we had a couple of mixed drinks and settled in. They make their own pizza dough and the selections were great. There ALSO is a great coffee bar, full complement, any coffee to order. Itcwas all very affordable as well. Perfect hot summer chill out spot with all the cool memphis flavor. I will definately be back. See you there.
A great place for a morning coffee and a pastry. Also a handy place for remote working as the wifi and power is great. We had the stuffed croissant and the Açai bowl. Delicious! A great setting with lots of books and games to rent.
This gem of a place just happened to be a few steps away from the AirBnB where we stayed. I cannot express how glad I am that my son was insistent we pop in there. Everyone was so nice, from the staff to some of the regular customers and chess players who sat down to play a friendly game with us. Clean and open environment, fun decor, awesome menu!
Everything was great except the sandwiches that we ordered, didn’t feel like we were eating bread, tasted nothing like bread tasted more like yeast, each bite the bread kept falling apart into crumbs, also my husband ordered a sandwich that barely had any meat, so I had to give him some from mine. next time we will probably try a pizza hopefully they will be a lot better.

Breakfast croissant, add sausage and enjoy with a bottled Mexican Coke. Grab a homemade cinnamon roll to take with you.
The his is a wonderful place to grab a bite to eat or a cup of coffee and play games with your friends, or get some work done.
Bought a 50 dollar social chess club membership on April 10, 2022 had an upgrade to to a 100 dollar chess club membership on August 11 2022. 10 months later I was told I didn't pay for the 100 dollar membership from the same manager that I paid. So they pocketed my extra 50 dollars. All I can say is to make sure that you get a receipt because there are obliviously some shady people at the Memphis chess club

#Customer service was not out of the park and was average 3/5 #Coffee: cappuccino was a 3.5/5 #Atmosphere: Nice overall #Wifi (April 2023) MCC - "checkmate" #Large windows allow for ample natural lighting which uplifts the mood and also offers plenty of adjacent window sitting. My experience: Saturday morning Atmosphere: is nice but the music is not ad free which is innane Coffee: cappuccino was decent maybe a 4/5 overpowered by caramel syrup. Offer variety of sizes. Wished they provided actual ceramic but I think they might be watching out for their wood tables, which Iis understandable.
Really enjoyed this place. We played a board game and had hot chocolate. The hot chocolate and apple cider are both delicious! I highly recommend trying both! We will definitely visit this establishment again in the future!
Really neat place. I'm not a coffee drinker, but they have a nice selection of teas. The loaded croissant breakfast sandwich was really good. The atmosphere is great. Very welcoming, like hanging at a friend's place.
I love the chess tournaments, and very friendly staff . The food is very good there salads are the best. So I give a 5 🌟

I stopped in late this morning after a recommended from a friend who lives less than 100 yards away. I went in for the chocolate chip cookie and came away impressed with much more. They have GREAT coffees, eclectic and expansive space, a broad food menu and what sure looked to me like a full bar! It’s also a chess player’s wet dream. I can’t wait to go back.
