pretty good coffee
Freshman year in college I would spend every Sunday morning here to study. Some times I would take my friends in there to just sit down and drink coffee while playing some chess. I sometimes wish that it wasn’t so gloomy and macabre in the back room area, but I guess I still adored it (it didn’t feel the same after they converted part of the study area to part of the sandwich shop next door)
Fantastic coffee and tea. The Heirloom side of the business does great lunch sandwiches, salads, and soups. Consistently awesome quality on everything they make. Staff is friendly even when they get super busy. A true Iowa City gem.
Java House wouldn't have so many good reviews if customers knew baristas had their credit card tips pooled and then stolen from them as recently as COVID 2020, and then were let go for speaking publicly of this. Well i can say something, cause I never have worked here and never will 👍👍

The hot chocolate and cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting made coming out on a chilly day totally worth it.
Good tasting coffee…. Wayyyy to expensive for what you get. Paid $13 for two SMALL coffees and did not even get any latte art on top. It also took 20 minutes to get our drinks. I will only be going back for a very special occasion.

My sandwich got messed up, and they fixed it immediately with no extra charge and were very kind. Coffee is amazing, and the big bear is the greatest employee.
Met a friend here for conversation. This place has been here almost thirty years and the interior finishes still somewhat reflect a 90s charm. The vibe is lived in and familiar and it's abuzz with all sorts of people picking up a pick-me-up. My latte was great and I appreciate that the lid and cardboard wrap are kept optional to reduce waste. Sound levels were pretty good for such a bustling spot. I didn't have any problems hearing my friend.
We always enjoy stopping in and grabbing our fav caffeine options, Ultra Violet for me and American Gothic for my bf. Great customer service, they are always very helpful if I get a taste for something diffrent.
One of my favorite spots in Iowa City! Great coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

The Asian Salad from Heirloom was fantastic! The staff was friendly and very helpful.
Good experience for coffee. I happened to get in between small rushes and was able to get my order quickly. I had a pour over and ordered an iced coffee to go for my wife. The pour over was excellent, smooth and satisfying. The inside of the shop was clean with plenty of available seating. I would go here for coffee again.
Amazing drip coffee. Slow to brew great quality taste. I go here to work often in the back room, it is nice and quiet back there.
We sat outside, the coffee was okay, they used to do better job. It would be nice if it was open later.
Enjoyed their Nitro Iced Coffee and found it to be smooth, silky, and hit my palette just right. Highly recommend stopping by for a brew or one of their delicious confections.
Really dug my dirty chai latte. Bever would have thought to put a chot of espresso with Chai but it was surprisingly nice
I love to go study here and get a cup of coffee! Such a fun and creative atmosphere. Their food is absolutely amazing! The food does take some time to get out, but it is so worth it!
