My wife and I had been here before and both had and enjoyable meal. We stopped in to Big Bill’s yesterday to meet some family for lunch and we pulled up a few extra chairs to the table. We were promptly yelled at by the “manager” as we “could not do that” because they needed the chairs. Please mind you there were empty tables and no other patrons waiting for tables. When asked to speak with the manager again we were yelled at again for “holding the table all morning” as we had other PAYING family members come and dine in the restaurant. We said that’s fine we will go somewhere else and the lovely manager said that is a good idea. Last time I checked, it wasn’t a bad thing that people want to come into a restaurant and spend money. Jack, I know you’re embarrassed and you should be. Your manager or woman in charge needs a serious attitude adjustment.
Food was fresh & crisp (5 stars); had the ham on pretzel & my wife had the roast beef. The homemade chips were delicious. HOWEVER, the service was awful. We had a family wedding in town so several family members were cycling in and out of the table, the manager first came to us and complained because my mother & father didn’t eat and then came back to let us know that we could not take unused chairs from other tables as we often had more than 4 at the table at any given time and thus chased cousins away that were about to order meals. I can’t tell you how embarrassing this was. We will never be back, instead, we’ll head back to Embe’s where the food & service was awesome.
I am still reeling from an experience I can’t even believe just happened. I and 2 others joined my family for lunch and we borrowed chairs from a table who didn’t need them because they had small parties. We were just about to order a spread when the manager approached us and - without any other words - said “the three people who just sat down must leave. You cannot eat here - we need the chairs from other tables.” She had ZERO interest in understanding that the chairs came from tables that had smaller parties and was so terrible to us when we sought her out to ask her why she would be so blatantly rude to people patronizing the business. This woman was an absolutely horrid person with zero business acumen. It’s too bad because her other staff seemed to be very good people and hard workers. I can’t believe - after the struggles during COVID - that you would be this awful to people coming into your business to spend money. I honestly cannot believe customers would be treated this way - to try and sit and eat - at a restaurant - and be treated so poorly is mind blowing. I will never give my business to this establishment again and would encourage you to find another place that values patrons much more. To that manager - shame on you - you are a horrible and miserable person.

Normally I like to visit an establishment a few times before reviewing but due to our excellent service, great food , and cool artwork I wanted to give a tight nod to Bill’s. My daughter and I came for lunch earlier today which allowed us to experience their awesome food. We started with some phenomenal soup then both enjoyed sandwiches & chips which were equally phenomenal. Our server Carol was totally awesome and you can tell the staff there works well as a team. They also had Paul Chase art near our table who is not only a great local artist but an awesome person as well so I was enthralled to see his work there. I look forward to going again next time I am in Galena :)
Warm barques root beer in plastic bottle, waitstaff with no personality! Group had a glass of wine, and a margarita- just wasn’t a good experience.
Pretentious menu with a lack of skill to pull it off. Put ketchup on everything once I finished so they couldn't give the cold sat on the griddle all day potatoes to anyone else
This place was amazing! I got a delicous turkey sandwhich and an iced hazelnut americano that was so good. I had to come back the next day to get another americano before hitting the road back home. Service, ambiance, and the food were all very nice.
We only stopped in for drinks, that were superb! We would have stayed for lunch as everything looked delicious, but we had limited time. I would highly recommend for either drinks or food.
The sandwiches are incredible and very fairly priced. Even the pickles are amazing. Servers are so friendly. A great place to grab a bite in Galena.
Amazing! This was my first time. Excellent food and my mimosa was top notch. Atmosphere very nice. Service was excellent very pleasant staff!
Sandwiches and coffees are amazing. Strongly reccomend The General and the Roast Beef & Cheese. Ingredients all tasted incredibly fresh and tasty.
Before we even sat down or took our coats off they asked us for our order. Seemed really rushed. I ordered a salad. It was lettuce with a cold salad on top (all the ingredients were in like a big icecream scoop on top) It was not really something I like to eat and didn't really eat any of it. There wasn't any pictures or anything to know that's what was going to come out. The chia latte was good. Otherwise, wouldn't go back again. Pretty expensive as well.
Stopped by for a breakfast of corn beef hash and coffee from heaven. Had a tough start for a cold and wet November day and the first sip of house roast put an instant smile on my face and warmed my soul. Quality not quantity on the hash and I ate a bit too fast so I could get back to savoring the extremely good brew of a second cup. Coming back oh so very soon.
We stopped here for breakfast on one of our two days in Galena, and it was so good. I got an amazing breakfast sandwich. The coffee was great, too!
The food was good as was the service.
Servers were friendly. Breakfast was slow, underwhelming and cold. Not to mention they forgot the hollandaise sauce.
Delicious breakfast and rich, strong espressos. Will definitely be coming back again.
This was our first stop on our honeymoon and we LOVED it. Sat at the bar and ordered great food and drinks. The food was surprisingly delectable. I ordered the Beefy Roman and I absolutely recommend this. They have a good beer selection and even better coffee. We liked it so much that we went back the next morning for breakfast!
Bright atmosphere. Excellent service. Would have liked to see more than one soup option.
