Located in the heart of the Art Deco district in Miami Beach is the gift shop and cafe for the Wolfsonian contemporary design museum. Opened to the public in 1995, the Wolfsonian was created by millionaire Mitchell "Micky" Wolfson, Jr., a Miami Beach native and collector and expert on modern design, architecture, and the decorative arts. He began acquiring much of what makes up the collection in the 1970's and he stored it at the Washington Storage Company facility on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach which is a building from 1926. By 1986, 90% of the building housed his collection so he bought the building and established The Wolfsonian Foundation in order to preserve the collection and make it available for research. In 1992 architect Mark Hampton to expanded and renovated the Washington Storage Company building, converting it into a museum and research center. Hampton and architect architect William Kearns created a modernist lobby, museum café and shop. Upstairs are permanent and temporary galleries along with a library, offices, and storage. The museum is one of seven campuses of F.I.U. University. The gift shop for the museum is a very unique and elegant space. Displayed on a beautiful 1915 shelving system by Snead & Co, the Design Store sells a carefully curated collection of design inspired travel accessories, stationary, bath items, household goods, watches, jewelry, clocks, toys, and books that include award-winning Wolfsonian publications. I loved the cat yoga magnets, children's toy flamingo, and book, and note cards. The is the perfect place to find a unique gift for someone or something for yourself. The Cafe is a brand new addition to the museum and it serves ethically sourced coffee, drinks, cake, and pastries The Wolfsonian partnered with the Nandan Estate, an organic farm in the hills south of Nilgiri, at 4000 feet in Tamil Nadu, India. A lot of great ideas for gifts but pretty expensive
Hot mess! I used to love to come to this shop/cafe and look around and buy interesting stuff... well no more, I felt so unwelcome today. The entrance door is now the exit door (a not so friendly attendant made sure I went all the way back when I was half way in .... carrying a baby in a stroller and a 7 year old by my side). You have to go all the way inside the museum. Again, another lady in the booth before I even say anything told me to make sure my daughter did not scoot around! She then proceeded to inform me that I had to register if I wanted to go to the shop!!...Why make if so hard when there was literally nobody inside the cafe? Hope they change back how it used to be.

Best museum in Miami!

Собрание Вулфсониен насчитывает порядка 180 тысяч единиц хранения, относящихся к периоду с начала индустриальной революции конца XIX столетия и вплоть до окончания Второй мировой войны (то есть с 1885 по 1945 год). Предметы разношерстны от полотен картин до пылесосов. Наверное, более правильно назвать музеем дизайна. Регулярно проходят прекрасные выставки. Во время нашего посещения — выставка итальянского дизайна 1918–1939 (Echoes and Origins: Italian Interwar Design).
Beautiful museum great shop with cool knick knacks
The guard on the 7th and 6th floor was very anxious, like he wants me to go fast, staring at me continuously. Besides that, this place is awesome, the rest of the staff is so kind and happy, I definitely want go back next time.

Fabulous gem of a museum in the heart of South Beach! The exhibits were thoughtful, interesting and a great reflection of the local area, especially of Miami during the 20th century. The Philodendron exhibit makes me want to wallpaper my apartment in those designs. And the permanent collection includes a wide variety of mid-century objects. I found the section on world fairs to be especially memorable. Definitely worth a visit of a couple hours. There's also a small cafe and gift shop near the entrance.
