Fantastic coffee, a great stop!

I'm not sure why this place has a low rating. I'm guessing because people in the area are adjusting to having a family owned business, instead of Starbucks.
Starbucks has special machines that make coffee quickly with minimal skill required; while this place uses a traditional professional machine that can allow for latte art and high quality pours (unlike Starbucks). Yes, it's slower. But good things take time.

Why you should love this place: the coffee is absolutely fantastic, the food/pastries are freshly made, the vibe is similar to before, and the staff are personable. I had a lovely conversation with the barista, who made my custom drink exactly how I wanted it. Expect efficient service, but not at the blistering pace of a coffee company that practically throws drinks at you and takes their food out of a plastic baggie. They have curated beans from Roasters you can shake the hand of, not mass produced plantation fodder. Give it a shot, I promise you grow to like it.

Notes for owner improvement: I would try to sweep/wipe down tables more frequently. You have the staff for it and it would improve the vibe. I came at the end of the day, and there were plenty of crumbs (which to be fair is on messy customers, but ultimately your responsibility). Also, the shelving in the middle of the way somehow seems awkward, can't just walk right to the checkout. I would love it so the back of the shelves are flush with the armchairs and facing the fireplace, a 90 degree rotation from what it is now. There is a natural divot in the wood inlay of the floor where it could sit and not block the entry as it does now.

Bring back the Starbucks that was here before...please! Jim and Patty's is a mess, literally. It's 10:40 am and we were told the kitchen is closed-, but could get our green tea and bagle. Next we experienced how the bathroom rivals that of a forgotten park, then the tables were coated with all kinds of sticky. My guess is that there is a serious lack of necessary staff and oversight. Oh yeah, they toasted the bagle with the cream cheese in it and it was served to us as an inedible melted mess and finally the green iced tea. How do you mess that up- we were given some sort of green water and no ice that sorta of tasted like fish! At this point our compunded disappointment became sorta of funny. How can you experience this much bad in such a short period of time?

I used to take all out of town visitors to a Jim & Patty’s to get their shakes and hands down everyone agreed they were the best they’d ever had. I wear their t-shirt and mask and encourage people to try them out. BUT this location was beyond disappointing. Ordered a shake. The person handed it to me and told me it was thinner than usual and to let them know if it was too thin. It was the consistency of whole milk. So gross. I took it back and they made another one and it was no way the same recipe they’ve always used. It was so thick and gross I just threw it away. I noticed while I was there that the pastries in the hot cabinet looked WAY over cooked to begin with and then they were dried out sitting there all day. So I can’t say how those taste but the muffin I ordered tasted just like a grocery store and nothing more. I’m so sad to have see this decline. Where is the old amazing-ness of Jim and Patty??! :(

I get the same iced lavender latte everytime i go in and the past few times, including today, the kids working there have made it for me hot. Although upon asking they have remade it for me iced, i don't always have the time to wait for it to be redone. There is some kind of communication error between cashier and barista. I spent about $10 for one drink including tip and i would prefer to get what i ordered for that price. The iced lavender latte tastes okay when i eventually get it although sometimes the shot tastes a little burnt. Additionally, the messy state of the lobby makes me wonder about the state of BOH. There is room for improvement but also potential for the cafe to be really great, just seems like some more training would do everyone some good.

Door dashed J&P’s and OMG this sugar cookie is to die for. It’s still warm!! Icing was nice and warm too. It’s absolutely homemade and you can taste it. I’m incredibly surprised and pleased. Thank you for making my day start good! Also their caramel latte is amazing, it’s also housemade caramel. (They have alt milk options too!) 😊

Absolutely incredible coffee and breakfast items! I placed an order this morning with Doordash and I was very happy with the quality of everything. It is a nice change to get fresh made coffee and fresh made food from a non-chain, locally owned, coffee shop. I look forward to checking out the location in person!

This place serves an awesome breakfast called the Pig Newton, which is pigs in a blanket - pork sausages wrapped in a cheddar chive biscuit. But I have a HUGE problem with how long it takes them to make their coffee drinks. Always takes forever. Everyone always waiting. If they actually had the normal volume of a Starbucks they’d be in big trouble. Someone needs to help the staff figure out how to do this more efficiently.

True Portland-style indie coffee from the ones who started it all. The amazing family and friends who work J&P’s are masters at what they do. Visit one of their welcoming (no ridiculous hipster-heavy nonsense) shops and drink in the vibe. My fave is their rich Mocha Borgia brewed with heart-pounding goodness. Try any of their freshly made coffee cakes and you may never leave. Cheers.

Coffee was good, sandwich was pretty bland and dry. Place is dirty. Cake is dry. Tables and floor not cleaned. J&P used to be a great place. So sad.

Bad experience at this coffee shop today and yesterday I had ordered a chai latte spicy my coffee was so cold and it tasted like half the cup had been filled with sugar, I was so sad, I really looked forward to drinking it by the time I got home 3 minutes later, also I went back today and told her it was nasty and cold I said it nicely and she took offense and said don’t say it like that and started arguing with me the girl with the purple short curly hair that wears a black hoodie most of the time, she was rude and not being understanding I said well it looks like you don’t want my business when it was there mistake I won’t be going back to order anything from them ever again she closed the window on me and shut me down didn’t even offer me my money back, yesterday earlier that day I rang the door bell outside the window the gentleman saw me but never responded so I had left and I came back after I walked my dog so obviously there rude and are unhappy people who are not cheerful and really don’t want to serve customers there coffee I have to rate it a a D- they need lots of work to do especially the customer service part!
